Ventage Quaker Time

The Cloudwalker and Penguin ventured into Building another Quaker this past week. Since Mr. Cloudwalkers Other Quaker went up to the Airfield in the Sky a couple years ago due to Structural Failure, He has decided to build another one. Work is going really fast since this is about our 2nd Quaker and I have had to Rebuild mine a couple of times myself. We have only worked on it a couple of evenings and part of a Full day. We have completed the Tail section and Fuse as of today. We still have a bit of Braces to add, some sanding and adding in a few shims.. But that should all be ready to cover by Tuesday. We are hoping to build the 2 Wing sections and Middle WIng Section this coming week. I have a complete set of Ribs already cut out but they have not showed up yet.. We are hoping to find them as this will slow our progress if we have to make new ones. I will take some Shots of the Construction and post them later so u can see our progress. We are hoping for the Maden Flight to be by June at our NEW SITE if it ever gets finished.

Today we Applied some Gussets and Bracing on the Fuse, Elevator, Stab, Rudder.. Cut in Shim on the Fuse to Join the Stab to.. Got to get the Correct angel you know. We also removed a couple of Joints on the Fuse up near the Front and Corrected a bit of One sided Angle we had going on. Seemed to have fixed that and Fuse looks more in Align now. Things are looking pretty good. We are still on Projected completion date. Hope to move on to the Wing and Center section soon.

Still looking for Ribs.. Anyone got any Ribs laying round.. ?? we could sure use some..

O O P S !!

Gone Thru One oz of Glue and some Epoxy started on Second Bottle tonight. Plug is to purchase Tri Stock for Rudder and Elevator and a few other slabs of wood we are running low on. This baby is a really Big Plane. Will take one 25 foot roll of Covering for Wing, stab, Rudder , elevator and one 6 foot for fuse.

No Cigars on Ribs or Templet from Bob. I cut our own outa Light Ply tonight. Two of them to be exact. We have to cut 22 Ribs from the Templets. I got ribs outlined and Ready to cut out. I will use the Ply Templets to sandwich the Balsa Ribs between and Sand to Perfect Size of Templets with Belt sander. I have Drilled one hole near the Front of Rib templets and another near the Rear. The Balsa Ribs that I have Traced out will also have 2 holes in them.. Once I sandwich 4 or 6 ribs between the Ply Ribs I will insert a nail the size of the holes thru all the Ribs. This will allow them to hold in place while I sand off the exess wood around the Balsa Ribs. Then Sand to the Ply Ribs and then take apart and I will have Perfect Balsa Ribs. Then onto building the three wing sections.. This baby will have 108 inch wingspan unless we decide to make it a little wider.. But we are trying to do this one to the Plans.

Bam... We are getting close to finishing the Quaker..

3-22-09 Today lots of action in the hanger. One wing and center section is mostly complete. Have a little sheeting to do and some sanding. Hope to have construction done by weeks end and maybe even more. This project is going faster than I planed. Plug and Penguin are getting her together..

After finishing the building we will install gas tank, push rods and motor mount. Then the Covering begins... but thats another story...
