I'm not planning to do high power manuevers (KE spin, pop top, tumbling, etc.) with this plane. I've left over from flying helicopter are these Jr. 8717HV servos rated at 215 oz/in at 6v or 230 oz/in (16.5 kg/cm) at 7.4v. Enough torque or should I go with servos with higher torque rating? Trying to save money on the servos so I can get a better 6S motor.

Also, I've got 6s 3000 mAh batteries (from the MSH Protos) and 6s 5000 mAh batteries from the 90 size electric helicopters. Too small and too big?

I went on AlleRc and I can get it free ground shipping to California! May be a spare kit ....

Those servos are no good. You should send them to me.

They will be outstanding for this plane. They'll do anything the plane can do.

I'm running 6S 4900 so 5000 will be great. Batteries are pushed pretty well forward, so with 6s 3000 you might have to add some nose weight for only a shorter flight.

Yup. You'll need the weight of the 5,000 for sure. A spinner would help.

I've to admit that I'm a big fan of Motrolfly based on performance, reliability and most of all the personal services from Ken. As such, I'm thinking of getting this motor DM4235-340kv.

* Weight: 455 grams
* Stator Width: 43mm
* Stator Height: 25mm
* Motor Width: 54.8mm
* Motor Length: 52mm
66.3mm X mount to Hub face
* Hub Length: 38.5mm
* Hub Shaft: 8mm x 30mm
* Motor Shaft Size: 6mm
* 12 tooth 14 magnet DLRK

Motrolfly posted these test results:

18x8 APC, 21.7V, 6600 rpm, 59.36 amps, 13.9 lbs. thrust
18x10 APC, 22.0V, 6400 rpm, 71.0 amps, 16.25 lbs. thrust
19x10 APC, 22.1V, 6125 rpm, 83.77 amps, 17.5 lbs. thrust

Too extreme for this Samson? Hopefully the x-mount fits the bolt pattern and the motor will not be too long for the cowl.

Sorry, two more questions (and most likely will not be the last), how much room do I need to land this baby? Harrier landing possible?

Looks like they tried to address the weak LG mounting plate...mine (arrived yesterday) has a phenolic/G10 plate across the bottom!

That's good....I never had any problems....but then, I fly off of a paved runway, and the only flight where I had a problem was on the maiden, since it was very tail heavy.

I really think that the biggest problem for me, (and this is pretty much for all Hyperion planes) is the lack of spare parts availability in case you do have a problem. I sold mine to a gentleman, and had it professionally packed, but not knowing any better, they supported the tail by putting some blocks under the stab at the tips, and due to getting bounced, both sides of the stab broke. The gentleman was very nice about it, and said he would repair it (fortunately, I had sent him a roll of the Hyperion covering that I had bought), and didn't even want any money back etc.... I called AlleRc and tried to get him a new stab, but there were none available, and it would have had to have been special ordered from wherever the planes are manufactured...and they really didn't act like it was feasible to do so....

Lack of parts is the reason my Samson's been sitting for over two years now with a broken cowl and wheel pants. I swore I wouldn't order another Hyperion plane, but I broke down when I saw the price at allerc. :-). The Samson is such a beautiful plane and it also flies great.

Are they ceasing, or have the ceased production of this plane? If this why the clearance sale?
