March 20-21, 2009-Weatherford, Texas-WAMS Swap Meet
The Weatherford Aeromodeling Society (WAMS) Swap Meet is the largest swap meet in Texas. Lots of great modeling stuff changes hands here every year. The information below is from the WAMS web site at this link:
Swap Meet, March 20-21, 2009
Hall Middel School
902 S. Charles Street
Weatherford, TX 76086
Driving directions: From Interstate Highway 20 Exit 406, go north on Bowie Street to the four-way stop. At the four-way stop turn right onto Charles Street, the school will be on your left.
Entry fee is $5.00 for adults each day and free for children under 12. Table rental is $10 per day or $15 per day for reserved tables. Concessions are available both days with sandwiches, hot dogs, soft drinks and other foods.
On Friday March 20, we start the setup at 5:00 PM with a great swap/trade night for all the modeling enthusiast that cannot make it on Saturday. This is not to say it is a small group of people. Many good deals are made on Friday which runs until 9:00PM. You may leave items over night in the building.
Saturday March 21 we start at 8:00AM and go until the last radio is raffled off after the auction which is around 3:30 - 4:00. Auction starts about Noon. Many hours of great deals and trades. Even if you don't need anything this event is something just to observe. You see things about modeling you did not know about or had not seen is many years. Also, a Security Patrol is provided while the meet is in progress.
Saturday auction starts at noon, and goes until we run out of items. WAMS collect a 10% sellers fee if the item is sold. No charge for no sales. Items can only be auctioned once. We except items for auction up to the time it starts. We auction in order that the items are received. So, if you need to leave early or need money to bid on another item register your item early.
We have always had great radios to raffle because people like winning one and for a small investment you could go home with a new 6 channel radio. There are 2 radios raffled off. The first goes at the start of the auction. The second goes after the auction is over. Every paid admission ticket includes an entry into the drawing for a Futaba radio. You need not be present to win. Additional tickets for the drawings are available for $1.00 each or 12 tickets for $10.00.

At the Newest Weatherford's Swap Meet on the 20th and 21st of 2009, I'll have two types of straight line/nonweave carbon fiber for sale: 6" wide by .007, and for electrics and gliders, full 12" wide by .003 thickness. It will be $2 a running foot or 11ft for just $20. If a few guys get together, I have two reels, each about 80 meters long, I could sell at a better rate price. Also have heavier weaved and cured carbon fiber/epoxy sheets/sections.
Along with carbon fiber, I have much in the way of new Quarter Scale and glow engine props, Balsa, and many other supplies ;>)
Hope to see you there,

I've been going to this swap meet for the last seven years and it has never not happened. You might try a phone call if you really need to talk to him. I think that a lot of people who run events have a hard time just doing that and many times that takes priority over answering every email. It has always been a great swap meet and I don't think this one will be different.

It amazes me that Sarge even knows what email is..! Let alone turning on a computer! hahahah
poor Sarge! The man sure cooks a mean hotdog though!

There was a good crowd Friday with all of the tables filled and a few people in the halls. Attendence was down a little over last year. In the past, the halls have been full with the overflow from the main room. Still, there were bargains and treasures to be found. I'm looking forward to being there at 8am Saturday to see what else people bring.

Saturday saw many more people circulating through the tables along with a fair amount of new stuff through the doors. The entrance hallway filled up and the main room got very crowded at midmorning. There were lots of old friends to visit and talk with and many planes and engines changing handss.
One of my married friends said he was holding back on going after some of the planes he wanted because he had received a directive to reduce the size of his collection by at selling some of it at the swap meet and not bringing back more than he left the house with.
I got great deals on some nice motors and foamies and have to make room in my garage for a 6 foot long Mig-27 giant foamie anti-aircraft target I unexpectedly wound up with.
There were fewer people than last year, but as always, it was a great swap meet.
Birdie, were you there?
