Not to put a damper on your plans, but my son who is a sargent in the Army currently has had to give up on flying because he just turned 30. They won't accept warrant officer applicants for flying helis once they reach 30.

Dam Lee are you 40 and going in the ARMY its gonna be ruff on you and I'll pity your ass, Im 47 now and went into the ARMY at the age of 17 I did 20 years and retired at the ripe old age of 38. Didnt fly no helis but jumped out of plenty of them as well as planes. I spent my first 15 years in the US Army 5th Special Forces Group, and my last 5 years in the 7th 101st Airborne Chinook battalion as the battalion S3, so I got plenty of rides in the Chinooks. Good Luck brother

Lee has previous military experience and they do hire people for non-combat roles.

The thing about bootcamp that worries me the most, is pushups and situps. My arthritis in my wrist makes it difficult to do pushups. Unless I can do them on my fist. hehe. And the way my back is, situps are difficult. I still think that I could fight my way through it though. Considering I outwork all the twenty year old's on the job. I still have amazing stamina. Climbing and toteting trees has kept me in decent shape. I was thinking either I could be a uav pilot, or maybe an I.T. specialist. Possibly an electricion. Don't know yet. Still waiting to talk to a recruiter. At 41 yrs of age, I doubt I have many options. But I can still shoot. I have had survival experience. And I used to be a martial arts instructor. So, you never know. I got a chance to show off my copter to an old friend last night. He was impressed when I took off from the bench, flew out to the back field, went up about 60'. Flew figure 8's. And then came back hovered and landed back on the bench. hehe. He gave me a big thumbs up. I am very happy about it all. Lee

Honestly I'd heard they'd raised the age to enlist, but I didn't think they'd gone that high.

Back when I was in the cutoff age was around 31 to join. At 37 I doubt I'd want to force myself through basic again. That 20 mile road march would be living hell now.

Your options as for as M.O.S. goes will depend on your ASVAB general technical score. A score of 110 or higher pretty much means you can take your pick of any MOS in the armed forces.

Yea, I'd probably be lucky to do good on the asvab again. When I joined the Navy, I scored so high I could pick from any job I wanted. Now, I'd probably be lucky to swab the deck, hehe. Oh well, we'll see. One of my cats took one of my mcx batteries. I can't find it anywhere. arrggghhhf. Lee

You'll find the cat by the brush-like fuzzy fur as soon as it bites and by flames from where it did it

Tina found my battery today while I was at work. hehe. Thank goodness. I still havn't heard from a recruter yet. Would rather get a real job as a civilian. But whatever, anything is better than what I am doing now. Hope all is well with you all. Lee

hehe...my cat got ahold of one of my batteries...chewed up up nicely...had to use a thick towel to pick it up....was burning hot...

Have been considering (slightly) taking the ASVAB myself...joining the airforce reserves...only a 5 week course....plus MOS training should only be out of work 12-15 weeks or so...

as for a comment about heli pilots and age...my friend who is 34 just enlisted in the Army and is now in the Heli pilot school...not sure what it is called....and she isnt even an officer......

You can't fly a helicopter unless you're an officer or warrant officer end of story. I refueled choppers when I was in the Army. Although Warrant Officers aren't theoretically officers, they still have to go to OCS. Meaning in order to fly a helicopter you have to have a minimum of college education and be accepted into OCS.

NCO's ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE PILOTS. They'll let them do maintenance on a chopper, refuel it, or ride in it, but flying it is out of the question.
