Whats the difference? 72mhz or 75mhz

I'd just found out that the TWO piece mini dean antenna i'd installed on my ep concept is 72mhz when my 8U radio is 75mhz.

What will happen to performance?

I understand that they also has a ONE piece thats for 72 and 75 w/ the same spec.

thazy2,

In the US 75Mhz is for surface vehicles only and
72Mhz is for aircraft only. I've never seen an
8U on 75Mhz

AM and FM have absolutely nothing to do with whether a radio can be used for a boat, car, or airplane. AM and FM are simply different ways of sending the signal from the transmitter to the receiver. There are AM and FM versions of car, boat, and airplane radios.

Frequency is the important factor. In the USA and Canada, radios on the 72MHz band are for airplanes only, and radios on the 75MHz band are for cars and boats only. To use the wrong frequency is dangerous. Say someone is flying a park flier in a park. Some clueless chap comes in with a car, except he's using an airplane radio he had left over from an unsatisfying attempt at flying airplanes. Both radios just happen to be on the same frequency. As soon as the car guy turns his radio on, the park flier goes out of control and crashes into someone or something.

The 9CHP has a replaceable frequency module. You can install a 75MHz frequency module and use your 9CHP with cars and boats. You will also need a 75MHz frequency crystal for the receiver, and it is a good idea to get the receiver tuned by Futaba Service, so it's reliable.

rc-eflyer and mkirsch1,

Thank you... that answers my question.. I understand the difference of 72 and 75... I was thinking maybe of getting a boat and want to use my 9CHP. Swapping out the module would be fine. The boat would have a different set of reciever and servos..

I am not sure if I get on, but I got the 9CHP for expandability in future.. Currently a major overkill for my Corona and even a bigger over kill for a boat.. I belive boat only use two channels...

For what the modulator probably costs I bet you could get
a whole simple ground or boat system

Fred...

I mean the TWO piece deans that you can order from Litemachine. The one piece works for 72 and 75. But the two piece works only w/ 72. Why?

If your using the 9 w/ 75mhz module, will the range be greater than a deticated 75mhz car radio?

rc-eflyer.....

If your using it for a small slow little boat, two channels works ok. But if you are able to use the 9 for fast high power boats, you can other channels for trim tabs remote adjustment which is very useful and convient (using micro servos of course to save weight). You would not need to stop the boat to make these minor adjustments for different water conditions.

I agree and only mentioned the price thing since hstewarth
said the 9C was "overkill" for him.
