Huh, this is a good idea. I need something else to fly off of the water and my Escapade doesn't get much love since I got a PA Extra MX. Which float kit did you use?

They are the E-flite 25 size fiberglass floats.

They're a little pricey, but they sure are nice.

Guys, I think my batteries I got (used, 4s 3000mah zippys) are wearing out. I'm getting a bare 5 min flight time with flying it mostly 3/4 throttle. . What is a good size battery for a stock Escapade 40 w/ Rimfire .46 motor & GP silver 60A esc? A fun plane for sure.

I fly mine with 5s A123, roughly equal to 4s LiPo, and get 8/10 min with minimall throttle management. A123 are 2300 mAh 20c.

i'm flying a 4 cell 5000mah 30c pack. i'm conservative flight time wise so i'm getting about 6 minutes, but i'm sure i could stay airborne for at least 3 minutes longer if i had to... i also don't fly full throttle all flight long...i'll do a couple of full bore passes but mostly 3/4 to 1/2 is plenty of speed for loops and rolls

I'm flying with Turnigy 5 cell 5000 20c.......the weight makes the plane balance and flight time would likely be more than 10 minutes....I usually fly about 7 or 8 minutes,,,

Thanks guys. A123's are new to me, but I like the flight time there. Grits, does a 4s 5000mah make it nose heavy on yours? Mine seems about balanced with the 4s 3000mah, which weigh 325g, and there's a little elevator UP trim too.

Mine balances fine with a 4s4000 20C battery as far forward as it will go in the tray.

I've ordered new bigger batts, but someone was telling me that the battery hatch has no air circulation and that that was why my batts were a little hot at the end, and suggested adding nacelles / openings on both sides of the fuse to get air flow.

Has anyone done this, or think it's a god idea/hooey? Might not help the looks much. I can see that the esc and motor already get tones of cooling, but it looks like there's few openings for air convection to the batt area.

I have not done this but there is no reason not to do it. A little more cooling in the area can not hurt.

I run a 5S, 4000mAh pack in mine and haven't had any serious heat issues. I agree that ventilation is lacking in the Escapade but the space up front isn't so tight to be concerned.

Don't run the motor at 100% throttle the entire flight and you should be fine.

it's worth doing. a well vented battery compartment can't possibly HARM your planes performance.

Oh nooooze...

I haven't flown mine for quite a while. But it's more because of having to drive 1 mile on a dirt road and not wanting to get my car dirty.
