Thanks Paul. The 2 Channel Jam...

George is stir crazy in Oklahoma... like the rest of us. A good guy, heck
he's one of the many rc sailplaners I've slept with in the world! :-).

A good guy who decided to play devils advocate...to the benefit of the
thread :-) Glad you kicked him in the tail, anyway :-).

The 2 channel thing is not a new class, its just a dumb idea to get
participation..and have some group fun.

Dion is brand new, an RC pilot but new to sailplanes, he's built and flown
'gliders' like most. The idea of a sailplane is what really got his blood
cooking...same as the rest of us.

A glider is a plane that lands with out a motor, a sailplane is a plane that
goes up with out a motor.

One feels good to land the other feels great not to land. :-)

There is no chance of finding young blood for the hobby, there are no kids
in enough volume to be interested. The few we got, got involved because they
wanted to, not because we wanted them to. It takes a ton of support for a
kid to be involved, same as it does for soccer, or little league etc.

So instead, I found a way to get the guys already interested, back into
being participants and maybe to hook some of the non-sailplane guys over to the
light side :).

The contest that inspired the idea was in Eglin Florida....held each month
at the power club....and mostly power guys involved....but on that day, they
dig out their "gliders" and participate in a contest. Had I had my own super
tuned two channel something or other, tweaked for the task, and
practiced....likely I would have just spoiled the event for most. Instead I had a strange
and wonderful repaired old 2m, tweaked with some hand launches just before
the round started. It provided just enough handicap to let me be 'one of the
guys'.

We got killed by a guy with an Organic....wasn't even close, but he had fun
and so did we. (it was fly what you brought, not 2 channel, I could have flown
my Supra!). The high start is a heavy duty, so each pilot has a chance to
get some serious altitude. They actually want everyone to have great start
versus the now gone forever I hope no pop off rule. ;-0

But in any case I like your comments because they definitely are in the
spirit of our new club series.
