Is my LiPo okay for my Tx?

Hi all!
I've seen LiPo's made for Tx's before on the HC website, and I'm wondering:

Can I could use my 3cell 1300maH 20C lipo in my Tx?

Any of you have experience with this?

I am thinking that the 20C may be too high of a current output for a Tx, but am I correct in assuming that it'll only draw what it needs to operate?

Please, any advise or input would be greatly appreciated!

Used 3 cell lipos in both of my Hitec Eclipse radios for years with no problems.

They're the old ThunderPower from 1320mah and 900mah 10c packs. Used them when their performance dropped off in the models. From what I've read on the forums here, Hitec does not recommend use 3s lipos in their radios, however, I've also never heard anyone having any problems with them.

If you use the Search function you can find about 3,007 post on this subject.

While many do use LiPolys in their Transmitters there are more reasons not to than logical reaons why to.

Most manufactures such as Hi tec ,JR / Spetrum, etc. advise against and it voids the warranty.

If you have the LiPoly and it makes you happy use it. It does not matter if it is an old <10C or a new >20C. A transmitter will only use from between approx. 130 and 300 mA.

Look at it this way. When you turn a TV on in your house it does not use all the power the electric company generates does it? It only uses what it needs.

Yeah I know..I got lazy.
Did the search, and poured over all the info. Seems like I am better off using modern 1000maH NiMh cells and making a new battery for my old Tx.

Thanks for the help!

Might be interesting to see what Horizon does as you've voided your warranty by installing a Li-Po in that tx....

I suggest Ray-o-vac or Kodak low discharge type NiMh from Walmart/Target instead of regular NiMh. They only cost a little more and hold their charge like lipos but much safer.

PS I gave up on lipo in TX after killing a couple by forgeting to turn off.

Lipos don't usually catch fire when discharged. They'll puff though.

The truth is lipos hardly ever catch on fire. In that rare event it is virtually always due to incorrect use of fancy chargers. I've destroyed hundreds of lipos as part of my job. If you run them down like I did they just puff and often even still work. My TX ones were worn out to start with and just died.

Some TX have LVC to prevent this but I still prefer NiMh.
