F5E Tiger Jet

F5E Tiger RTF Jet
F5E Tiger ARF Jet

21-5/8" wingspan, 34-7/8" long, 125 sq. in. wing area, 18-1/2 oz. flying weight. Tough EPO foam construction makes a more durable airframe, less prone to dings and dents. Jet comes with all the major components pre-installed and ready for final assembly. There are only 2 things to glue in place, the vertical fin and the EPO nose cone. Oh, I forgot the 2 rockets have to be glued on as well. The 64mm fan is installed with a smooth-running Outrunner motor and a 30 amp speed control. The 4 servos (2-aileron, 2-elevator) are pre-installed and pre-connected to the flying surfaces; it just doesn't get much easier than this. Charge the 1300 mAh lipo battery with the included lipo balance charger, install your radio system and get ready to go fly fast. Flight battery access is located under the canopy making a quick change easy to do. Jet comes with removable landing gear with a steerable nose wheel. Can be flown with or without the gear. If you don't have a smooth runway, hand launching is easy to do and belly landings are a breeze. The high visibility color scheme really helps with maintaining orientation with this fast jet. Small-yes, twitchy-no; the F-5E has great speed and really grooves in the air. The jet is suitable for intermediate to advanced pilots. Check out our video online.

servos

so i got this in december as a present, built it, but only recently had the time to finish the construction and wiring. unfortunately, servos don't work, and i know it isn't the receiver because the motor itself works. just spent a few hours disconnecting/connecting the servo wires but the servos still refuse to work. any way i could get some useful help?

I think he's talking about the 70mm F5E. We can fix you up. Fill out a support ticket here to start the process. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/support.htm

Thanks,
Jason Cole

I just bought one of these yesterday, surprised to see such a lack of responses. Does anyone fly one of these and can give a review? The F4U Corsair and FA/18 that I also fly have hundreds of pages and a wealth of info...was hoping for the same here.

I got one of them in the mail yesterday. 2 out of the 4 servos are useless (only move in one direction) and 3 out of the 4 control rod connectors are stripped. Honestly, if this would not have been a sale, i would be extremely pissed at this point. I sent a complaint form to HL and a PM to Flyboone but no answer yet. I really would like to at least get some replacement servos and control rod hardware from them to make it at least flyable. Under normal circumstances i would send the whole kit back but a) they're out of stock and b) i already glued parts together, so i can't send it back in the box.

Also, the control horn on the elevator is in a approx. 45 degree angle to the servo but they did not make the control horn in a straight line to the servo, no, they KEPT the 45 degree angle....a very bad setup imho as it stresses the linkage no matter what.

If i had the choice, i'd buy a different model and not the J-Power version of this bird. However, i have it now and i want to make it fly now too, so please HL, work with me to get this bird in the air.

I have logged many flights on mine and will very shortly have a complete review of it on Ezonemag.com, here on RCGroups. Give it a chance and I think you will like it. I am very pleased with the JPower EDF power system and it does a great job in the Tiger F5. Pretty easy to launch and land and nice top end speed make it a great, smaller EDF to keep in the car for those sudden, unexpected opportunities to fly.

I have finally started flying my F5E after having it for a few months. I bought it on sale during the summer. When I first received it the canopy was flattened right out of the box. A quick phone call got me a new one within a week. I was somewhat disappointed in the overall look because both wings, as well as the horizontal stab, are bowed up toward the tips. The elevator control horns were not at the correct angle to the control rods. I corrected the horns, but left the wings and tail as is. I am flying with a DX-7, so I programmed the dual rates with lots of Expo on low rates, plus limited the control travel to the ailerons and elevator. My first flight was a heart-stopper because I had great difficulty in getting it to turn. Going to High Rates with more travel and less Expo got it under control. Back on the ground, in one piece, I tried to figure out what the problem was. A flying buddy mentioned that the ailerons look more like flaps because they do not extend very far towards the wing tips...and that makes for very sluggish turns. I compensated for this by increasing the aileron travel. I now have about 10 successful flights, but each one is still a bit exciting. It flies pretty good, but nowhere like my FA-18. The FA-18 is super responsive and capable of good aerobatics, which I was doing before I had 10 flights on it. I do like the way the F5 takes off and lands, but I have had it do a couple of high speed stalls that I don't understand. The elevators seem to deflect unevenly because it will roll out of a loop. Still working on that problem. I am using a 1500mah, 3s Zippy battery which fits perfectly, and I fly just under full throttle for about 6 minutes. The battery runs down to about 30%. The motor and fan work very well and I have had no servo problems. I am using a AR6100 receiver which also works well. This plane is not for a beginner pilot and it is easy for it to get out of sight, so I always have a spotter watching it for me. Keep it in close and pull the power back a bit on any first flights because it does get up and move. Landing are a matter of lining up on the runway and cutting the power...it will come down pretty fast so keep the nose up and be ready with the power. For me it's still a 6 minute thrill!
