HPI Nitro RS4 RTR

I have had several electric RC cars mostly Radio Shack (which sucked)
but now I want something a bit more serious. So I was considering the
HPI Nitro RS4 RTR. However, I have a few questions such as, what else
do I need to do to maintain the engine other than cleaning and oiling
the air filter? Also how long do glow plugs last? How long does the
engine last with proper matainance? And what is the proper break-in
procedure for the engine? I know it's a lot of questions but I have
ABSOLUTELY no experience with nitro cars. I have howver been reading
a lot about them and have become resonably acquainted with all the
components. Thanks for all your help, Jay.

P.S. The nearest hobby store is 300 miles from where I live can
someone recommend an online retailer for everytning I need? Thanks
again.

Re: HPI Nitro RS4 RTR

most of what you are asking is covered in the manual for any care you
purchase. Glow plugs can last a matter of hours, or a year, really depends
on a bagillion factors including how the motor is tuned. Motors can last a
gallon of fuel to 10 gallons depending on how it is tuned and how hard it is
driven.

I am in the U.S. Also, what do they mean when they say that the car
is "90% complete"?

I just saw the Super Nitro RS4 Rally and I wondered with a few
upgrades (shockes, tires, etc.) could the Nitro RS4 3 RTR become
capable off-road like this car is? Thanks Jay.

Re: HPI Nitro RS4 RTR

Hi Jay;
Welcome to the 'big time' of rc cars. As with any new adventure, just take
small steps and it will reward you with more fun for the bucks.
Just read the instruction manual that came with the car and don't rush
everything. glow plugs will last for five or more tank fills the break in
will cost you at least one because of the richer setting of the carb.
use only the recommended % of nitro blend ( 15%) for starters. check all
fitting and screw after the end of the day ,clean and oil the engine and
frame. check the batteries at least 6-10 tanks of running but be sure to
turn off the transmitter and receiver then done!
Try Towerhobbies.com for a nice selection of goodies.
Have fun
