I have some insight into how much "normal companies" have to pay to send a message... Twitter must have a horrific burn rate, but that's a topic for another interest group.

I haven't found that their site does a good job identifying the type of traffic, not even as well as you did. I got a message from person unknown as soon as I signed up... must be public, and now maybe I have a stalker.

They definitely don't do a good job explaining the @ reply settings, and I didn't spot them explaining a "retweet," etc. I have no problem figuring this out as I go, but thanks for the help.

Anyway, I'm always in the market for a new distraction.

They call it "micro blogging" (I've never looked but probably just xml/rss)
Check this out http://search.twitter.com/
search for like "rc plane" or whatever. Parses the public data. Find peeps.

You will notice that twitter gets slow and goes down often. Servers get overloaded with million of micro blogs and people subscribing to them.

There are tweeters out there that have search requests set for certain key words. Some guy may be looking for the word "Auto" and he might be selling car insurance. He will "Follow" you to see what you are talking about and get you to look at his profile to sell you car insurance. You should get an immediate email telling you that a new person is following you. You can "BLOCK" them immediately if they look undesirable to you.
It is a good idea to keep track of who is "Following" you.

Yes. And do not turn on "auto follow who follow me".
