You first have to decide which covering to use. This is usually a compremise between strength and weight. Will you need covering that adds strength to your project, if not then you'll go more for light weight.
If you're thinking iron on coverings, they usually come with instructions that are adequate to get the job done.
I know, not real helpful, but it's where you have to start.
