Hopefully someone can help. I am building my first Balsa plane. It will be ribbed and not sheeted. I have never covered a plane before. Anyone know where I can read a HOW TO on covering? Anything will help.

well, there are some books on the subject in S&E modeler.
IF I was you though, Just try it. THe only hard part is doing it wrinkle free. I have yet to make an airplane 100% wrinkle free. Wrinkles are just annoying for the most part.

You first have to decide which covering to use. This is usually a compremise between strength and weight. Will you need covering that adds strength to your project, if not then you'll go more for light weight.

If you're thinking iron on coverings, they usually come with instructions that are adequate to get the job done.

I know, not real helpful, but it's where you have to start.

Look under parkflyers, Solite covering. There was a great thread, very detailed on using this light-weight material. Plenty of pictures and good text. There are also links as were to purchase the Solite. The plane they were covering was a Switchback, I believe.

Hi-all;

I'm working on a project and need info on relative weights for covering.

I'm building an Aerodrome Nieuport 11. Since it's a short-nosed biplane, I need to keep it balanced. This is an .05 or larger plane, so indoor/tissue coverings are out, at least for my preferences.

Also, I need to use a cream color.

This leaves me three choices; Oracover, Ultracote and Monokote. Can anyone tell me the relative weights of these coverings? Thanks in advance!
