The specs it had:

2x Roxxy motors of 177gram 3548-05
http://www.robbe.de/roxxy-bl-outrunner-3548-05.html
Very nice motor, but not powerful enough for a 5.2kg plane.

2x Hype 60amp Alpha Control Pro (same as a Turnigy controller I found out)
they are good, also will be used for the new setup. Can handle 5s
http://www.hype-rc.de/?page=shop/fly...oduct_id=15838
- Check this brochure and see the programmer card.....
http://www.hype-rc.de/shop_image/att...2fb2512249.pdf
I have seen this ESC program card before:
https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...idProduct=2169
- So this Hype 60amp Pro controller is simply Plush 60amp, which are good ones!
https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ontroller.html

1x Flightpower 25c pack 4s2p 7200mAh (in the bin already)

1x original retracks from Ripmax on air

1x Turnigy BEC of 5amp

With 12x8 it had 1000watt and it could fly, even with 5.2kg weight. But I am not used to planes with 'minimal' power and the packs was also 'lame' and not okay.

Anyhow, will fix it and new setup will be other motors (SK3-4042 740kv) and other pack 8000 5s.

Callie Graphics does great custom markings, very nice peel and stick vinyl, and she often works from photos. I was amazed, well under $20 US for all the markings (insignia, lettering, warning symbols, etc.) for my 1/9 scale OV-10 Bronco. All you need is a photo of the real thing and the dimensions or scale of your model.

Don't know how international shipping would work for this since she ships in flat mailing envelopes. You might just contact her and see if international shipping costs would be reasonable.

Hi Dave,

Great! Useful information. Yesterday I found 'vector' images for the DH-88
I did join RC-Network forum in Germany and one of the moderators did an awesome job in collecting vector decal images!!

http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showt...11#post2414811

It is for free, but a donation is welcome of course and I am way happy to donate since I found the decal vector images. It is a Coral Draw file you get, a program that I own. So awesome.

Check it out.
If you see a decal set that you seek, drop me a note and I will get you in contact with this person.

Of course the next step would be printing the stickers and your address has fair prices indeed. Shipping by post is most of the time not expensive.
Maybe somebody in our RC club can arrange this (sticker printing with a plotter) and otherwise this sounds like a good address

Thanks,
Rob

A bit more work than expected with this nose job!
Will take a few more evenings to get the body again in mind condition.

Setup

Setup:

2x Turnigy NTM 4248 650kv with 12x8 APC-E prop
5s LiPo 4000 30C Turnigy BLUE wrapped packs.

12x8 APC-E is a bit below 50amps WOT.
10.000rpm I did measure.

91mph / 146 kmh
Static thrust 3290gram
So total thrust is 6580gram

Motor is arround 250gram

Lots of work

Hi,

Many hours already worked on repairing the Comet... still fun, since I love to built and to be at my hangar/hobbyroom.

- back needs some fixing...see picture
- I decided to select 2x NTM motors instead. 42-48 650kv (see post above this one about the results of testing)

Slow progress

As you can see lots of fixing....

Glassing the tail piece I am doing now.
Next would be the paint job. But for this I need better weather.

Stickers for the Comet already received. Great quality from Callie Graphics!

Cheers,
Rob

We are getting there!

Hi

Added tape to make new panel lines.
The tail part of the plane needs re-connection of the rudder and elevator.

But once that is arranged, it also gets its primer paint.
Since the final color will be 'red' they advised me to use grey primer. Otherwise you have troubles getting it 'red'.

Cheers,
Rob

Wing ready

Wing is ready to get the final paint job
The motor sections have been glued to the wing. This way I could make the upper part nicer looking

Question is what RED color to use.
I did try RAL 3002, but this one is a bit too dark.
The RAL 3000 would be maybe the best option, since Revell also mentions this for the Comet.

"Signal red" is the color of the Comet DH-88

The color of ARF is RAL 2002. which is oracover color 22.
Which tends to orange....

But there is little info to find.

I am getting there!

Wing and body will get its last check-up and next step is final paint job
I also need to remove the panel line tape (sand it and remove the tape).
But that is not much work.

Small things can hold up allot!
For instance the tail wheel had a bit too much space in moving. I mean moving backwards...
So I added a bit of wood and epoxy to make it all tight again. Otherwise it would be 'pushing' and pulling on the servo during start and land which is not good!

Most likely this one is going to fly in May!

Brilliant work!

Love the 88.
We saw the replica fly into a local airport a few years ago.
Man what a sight!

The real one! Cool!!!
Yes, it is an awesome looking plane!

A few little things remain with my DH-88 project and next step is bringing it to the painter.
The wheel pants are ready. Was a bit tricky to make, but I succeeded.
