New model for 2016 ?

Decided it was time for a new Tiger Moth....I have had several over the years
1/6 scale, 1/5th scale, 1/4 scale, and now this one for 2016...111" wing , span which is about one third scale. Just over 3200 sq. in. wing area.with motor installed it's 13 pounds.... I'm hoping to get in the air around 22 or so...and fly it on 6 4000 mah lithium cells.

She should fly like a butterfly with that wing area at 22lbs, holy moly!! Did you order a special batch of helium filled balsa? I assume 12S, what motor/esc/ prop have you chosen for this bird. Doug B

I'm planning an E-flite Power 160 on 6 cells with possibly a 22X12 prop.......not sure on the prop yet, as I will need to weigh the finished model...then I will carve a propeller to suit. opposite rotation props are hard to come by, and expensive...so since I've carved a few in my day, we'll go that way.

Wow, ambitious project. It will be neat to see one running the correct direction propeller. That will be incredibly light for it's size. 5 knots of wind or less, eh?

I have a few I'd like to finish. One is a 1/5 scale Tiggie of Gordon Whitehead, designed for electric power. 70" span, 9 lbs, probably 4/6 s. Then my 1/4 scale Zenair 701 designed by Robin Fowler. This one is much further along than the Tiggie, so it's first. I am tempted though to enlarge the Tiggie plans to 1/4 scale instead of 1/5 scale.

Gee Ron, I've got one going-in fact, just maidened 12/31--but its another of my annual secret projects that keep Bob, Ted, Al, and Robert guessing, and now you maybe, with the rollout at the May Chilli event.

All I can say is that all will be amused and I'd be surprised if it didn't end up one of your favorites!!

I'll tell Robert to chime in on his new project tho--its no secret!

Well.....Ron.....
I thought the cat was out of the bag....
I know everyone here has seen Beverleys and Mars before but since my 162" Beverley didn't push me over the edge I decided to scratch build a 160" Mars too! The fuselage is only half planked and we're waiting on revision 6 to arrive from the laser cutters! If I have any hair left when the fuselage is done the rest will be a cake walk :-) I might be persuaded to occasionally post some progress here if it would interest anyone.

Hi Robert !! Happy New Year !! YOU BET.......one of my favourite planes. unfortunately Hangar room is at a premium, so either the Catalina or the Albatross would have to go first, and that isn't going to happen any time soon. I sold the Catalina quite a few years ago to make room for the DR1 and regretted it the second I had the cheque......it came home to stay this last fall.
Looking forward to pictures of the Mars as you go along.

The fourth and fifth photos are the cradle made after the bottom of the hull was planked, this allows for holding the model up right for building and transportation.
The CAD drawing was I think revision #4.....we just sent #6 to the laser cutter, we're hoping that it will be the final one. Lofting the rear fuselage turned out to require a lot of effort :-) few cross sections are available for this aircraft and the ones we have seem to be for a similar but different flying boat.
