Found a complete un-built Hartman tug boat kit

i was lucky to find and purchase a unbuilt, fully accessorized Hartman tug. Will all the new mottos/gearboxes out there, I'd like to get opinions on what motor to use for a 12 volt setup? I'm considering the MFA4 11:1 gear reduction w/1436 rpm or Mack productsSpeed 900B Turbo with their Rockcrusher gearbox, or harbor Models MFA960D211 motor with belt driven gearbox(what ratio?). Lastly Loyalhanna has a motor,#6373, which they advertise for their Hartman Tug.

Was also thinking about using a Viper15 or Vantec ESC..

Comments/advise appreciated.

Chuck

Find one of the twin-shaft Johnson HC970's, it'll give you a fairly inexpensive option in a smooth running motor for that size of boat...no gearbox needed...

Google and E-Bay. There are two versions of the 970 out there, so be sure the one you buy is a 12 volt motor.

Anyone know what the shaft speed is for those Johnson motors? I have a box full of that size that I think would work just fine for a big tug. Tons of power, and great low speed control.

go up to a 25 Viper so you have zero problems with amps.

Hartman built a LOT of Douglas Greg kits over the years, and I'm willing to bet that many more of them will be popping out of the woodwork over the coming years, as they are rediscovered in garage rafters and attics all over the country---.

Hartman tug...

True that! I bought an untouched, complete Douglas Greg a couple of years ago. There was another one out here in CA, owner wanted $1000.00 for it though.
