HK Durafly Skymule mod

I recently got the HK Durafly skymule and decided to really modify it into a look alike Twin Otter.

The size was perfect for spare parts I had so I'm going for it.

I use a Flyzone Beaver spare wing and cut out the trailling edge to have the Flaps and ailerons .
I ordered Catalina PBY cowls from http://parkflyerplastics.com/cart/in...roducts_id=634

They are a perfect fit and look good.
I also ordered the Skymule plastic nose cone http://parkflyerplastics.com/cart/in...roducts_id=700

Also using MAS 10 x 7 x 3 props with rubber spinners that I had from other models.
I will also use the Lights from the Flyzone Beaver and others for strobe beacons.
Since I will have it on floats I will use the E-Flite 32.4 inch floats.

So for now the mod is going well.

I will paint it to look similar to this Canadian Twin Otter

Float work continues.
I took a set of the Flyzone Beaver floats and cut out the base for the struts and blended them in the new floats.
I also added a 6 ich long plywood reinforcement plate to prevent the float from braking in half.

Tail controls are done and working very well.
I use the nose gear servo that is metal gear for the rudder and installed a HS82MG servo for the elevator.

I also ordered turbo prop nacelles from parkflyerplastic in case I decide to convert into a turbo prop twin.

Float progress coming around good.
I did use the Flyzone Beavers Struts but in different positions and had to cut a couple to adjust the hight.

Some more work today on the floats and tail subfins.
Looks like I might do it as a turbo prop even if it looks good on radial.

Turboprop nacelles

Well I got my turboprop nacelles and did a test fit but not shure I really like the looks with them on.
They look a bit oversize for it.
I will have to really think this one out.

Wing-fences

Here are some shots of my wing fences made of plastic.
Just a groove in the top of the wing and inserted the fences, they will be secured with silicone adhesive once the plane is painted.

Flaps and aileron droop

I finally got my Flaps and Ailerons working on my Skymule Mod

Showing here my Skymule 3 position Flaps and aileron droop setup.
I use 2 switches
Position #1 Take-off flaps with aileron droop
Position #2 Flap 2 ailerons up
Switch #2 Full Flaps and ailerons still up.
Now from there I can select position #1 take-off flap on switch #1 and aileron go in a droop mode with the full flaps.

Skymule mod Flaps (1 min 0 sec)

Turboprop nacelles

I decided to go with a turboprop style nacelle so more mods to come

I use the cowling of the turboprop nacelle from parkflyers plastic and use the Skymule stock foam nacelles and I'm reshaping them using some insulating pink foam .
The spinner on the pictures is a 1 1/2 inch GWS 3 blade rubber push-on spinner.
I also ordered some dubros and I will see which style I will choose.
