Sig Something Extra

Has anyone converted their Something Extra from glow to electric.

I am finishing up my project, but have gotten side tracked a little. I am powering it with a Hacker A50-10S and a Hacker Pro 70a ESC.

Has anyone run that power setup and what performance did you get. Looking at a 13 or 14 dia prop on 6s. 1250 watts ought to work on this setup, right?

Thanks for any info you have.

There are several A50-10S listed from about 2010 with Kv varying from 470 (A50-10S Turnado, circa 2012), to 588 (A50-10S, prior to 2010) and the current A50-10S Turnado with Kv=690. It's only the older Kv=588 version that has a max power of 1250W, soi I'm guessing that's the one.

It looks to me as if you're mixing up the max power rating of the motor with what it will actually use for a given voltage and prop combination. For example, the predicted max power on 6S with a 13x6.5 is around 1300W. and 14x7 is over 80A/1600W. So 13" props are the max you should consider, and 14" is way too big for both motor and ESC. And around 1300W is more than you'd need for even a 6lb model.

But I'd suggest the motor is actually a pretty good choice as you can get around 900W on 5S with a 13x8, or about 1000W on 6S with a 12x6, with plenty of headroom for both the motor and ESC. That's at the top end of the power Sig recommends for the ARF (600-1000W).

I'd suggest starting with no bigger than the suggestions above and verifying actual power with a wattmeter before flying.
