An alternative is to go to a 300mm 3 blade prop. I have looked at posts on sizing these and need to get my grey brain around the maths to work out an equivalent size.

I have used 12x6x3 and 12x8x3 MAS props and both worked well, my maiden was with the 12x6x3 and 12-14min flight times on a 3300mah, currently I am using a 12x10x2 apc electric, imho you will get prop strike with anything bigger.

It's all to do with keeping it up.......

tried the 13 x 8 prop today. full tilt was 52a and 770 watts.

have bought a tacho, so when that arrives I will document the rpm, draw, watts according to the wattmeter, then maybe some real math can be done.

Just tried the G46 on my emeter with a tgs 12x8 2bl, was surprised with the data, fresh rhino 3700mah 25c 4s battery, wot 15.28v, 54.7a, 837w, 9060rpm.

That current and power seems way way higher than it should be, especially for the rpm, which is not that high. Beiung higher than peter saw for a 13x8 is definitely odd. I'd have expected under 40A, even the peak value hot off charge.

I wonder whether the TGS props just eat a lot of amps? I also wonder whether the Kv on your motor is higher than spec.

Not sure mate but the performance is certainly there to back up the amps, doing a low and slow, push wot and pull vertical until she gets kinda small. I know the auw for the plane is around 2.4kg. So I have no idea why my specs are higher?.

I am as surprised as you with the performance, way more than I expected from a 12x8.

Well if it's not cooking anything all I can say is bonus

I kinda like the gentle slow pass and pull vertical thing in a trainer too - makes the average glow Boomerang or Swift look a bit anaemic, except they do get better duration

I still have not got a handle on all this motor vs prop vs battery thing but I'm flying comfortably at present and have a system I think can grow with me.

After suffering a few prop strikes I decided to change to 4500 5S 25C Zippy Compacts and 12 x 6 APC E prop. Sounds better and goes OK. It will pull vertical at the end of the runway and roll a couple of times. Starts to run out of puff after about 8 secs going vertical but I am happy. After all it is only a trainer.

I've bought the boomerang II with electric conversion and the choice between tail dragger and trike. Bought the g46 plush 70a and 4000 4s lipo. No room to start building so gathering dust in the box for bit longer...

Able to pull verticals with three quarter throttle.
3 clicks of trim needed only, 12 minutes of flight on a 4500 4s battery with 40% remaining.
Tracks straight and true, not a single issue, very happy with conversion.
very quiet, sort of like a stealth trainer remarked one observer.

How does it handle wind ?
