First thing to do is watch this site:
http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/...yday=9&weekday

If the forecast direction is east, north east, or north check here to see what the wind is doing in real time:
http://www.wunderground.com/weathers...?ID=KCOGOLDE25

If everything looks good, post here to see if anyone is going to Mt Zion in Golden. If so, most are more than happy to help.

If you have any questions, re plane set-up, etc., post the here.

There's a lot more, but hopefully this is a start.

Yes.....just please use the motor for emergency recover and please do not use high rpm motors. (shh...keep it quiet) Remember, lipos are more fire prone in a crash and it's very dry up there.

As someone who lives at the base of Zion I would suggest not learning on Zion with a Lipo powered plane. Zion is not really a nooby friendly location. The fire danger on Zion is very real and needs to be respected along with the other various dangers / obstacles.

Jason and Roger2525-

Powerlines is a great spot- and it will teach you fast about staying in the lift!

When there is a West wind head North on '93 to... What is it? 111th? -the main road bordering NREL ( the wind farm is) to the North- head East on that road about a mile, and you will see a little bluff on the left- go past it about 100 yards and you will see a turn-out. You MUST fly from the South side of the fence, the farmer won't allow transmitters on his property- but you can cross the fence to recover your plane. Remember- turn into the wind, and keep the planes out front. The wind there will blow you WAY back if you let it.

I'm in Green Mountain. Looking to learn about sloping with the bird I have. I've been flying at the soccer fields off Rooney road in Golden but when the wind gets up around 15 there are some ugly rotors from all directions. Not to mention the soccer goals and chainlink fences. A few folks have mentioned NCAR when it blows from the south but I haven't made it up there yet. Powerlines would be quicker to get to so I'll probably head there first.

Yeah i have only been sloping once i went to ncar with no previous training and just threw my bee into the wind. I was already into handlaunch so i had the fingers. It was pretty easy to stay up, and very fun. The place near the wind farm, are you talking about marhall mesa/ doudy draw? Community ditch? Its just south of the marshall mesa trailhead?
