Wren,
Review the threads about putting a small amount of dihedral in the original sized, flat plate wing. I've never flown one, but it sounds like it helped alot according to what people said.

By the way, your private mesage InBox is full and is not accepting anymore PM's.

Cd Rom motor for this insulator

Would you guys please post the specs for the Cd Rom motors that are making these insulators scream? I have the GBv1 kit 22.7 mm stator, N45 5X5X1 magnets, 3 mm shaft, 26 g magnet wire, phoenix - 10 speed control, and 3 cell 11.1 V, 700 mah battery. What prop can I use? I have built a 15 Turn Wye. Can I use it with a 4025 prop, and 11.1 V 3-cell battery? Am I going to have the same screaming performance? Is it a safe set up for my Battery/phoenix - 10? Your suggestions/help is appreciated.

Regards,
Saeed

I have a 13 turn (newbie kit) GB CD-ROM motor turning a GWS 5X2.5 prop with an E-Tec 1200 mAAHr 3S Li-Po, and my Insulator will go unlimited vertical, and has a very good turn of speed in level flight.

I have also run an APC 4.1X4.1 on this setup - it will go faster when level but will not go unlimited vertical, and is more of a handful on launch.

Just ran it up on a 15t

That's a pretty light load, it'll be mild:
4x2.5, 10v, 2.9a, 17115, 3oz, 41mph

I'd suggest 4.5x4:
10v, 4.6a, 15665rpm, 5.8oz, 60mph

Maybe 12-13t would be better for a 4025 prop on 3s. It's 9.2a on a 10t...

Gene,
I've got the following props: 4025, 4040, 4530, 5030, except the one you suggested (4540). What would I get by using the 4530? Thanks for all your help.

I used a 14 turn motor with a 2s 730mah battery, and a 5.5x6 (a cut-down GWS 7x6)

Can someone edit one of the first posts on this thread to include some pictures, plans and links to videos? It makes it much easier than searching through 500 old posts for the useful bits.

Screamer Motor

Saeed,

From the first post of the first thread...

motor- 15 turn Delta config, 26 gauge, 26,000rpm static, 5.5 amps WOT
Esc- Phoenix-10
Radio gear- 2 ea. Cirrus 5.4 servos, GWS 4ch reciever
Wingspan- 19.5"
AUW- 4.76oz
top speed- yet to be determined...my untrained eye says "really fast!"
plans- unavailable, yet all that is needed to reproduce this plane is an imagination, a sharp blade and maybe a ruler.

I believe Robb had a GWS 3/3 (3030) prop on it during the video flights.

Figures, I don't have a 4530

I've got to order some on my next order....

I'd try the 4040, 4530 and 5030... Somewhere in there you should find a happy spot...

I whole-heartedly agree with that statement. People like Gene, GPW, Jerbear, etc., etc. make this hobby great. I really appreciate how much you all give. I would not of had near the success or fun that I have had (not to mention all of the planes) without you guys. Thank you!

Robin,
If you PM me the links, I'll edit my first post of this new thread to reflect that information.

Insulator in Spain

Here's my insulator. It's been too windy for a maiden, hopefully it will fly this weekend. I used the j250, and foam from Balsapr.com. Check it out.
