Help!
Looking for some guidance making a home made dolly please

Hi Guys,

I thought I would post here as dollys are widely used by glider pilots but its not for a glider. Its for an X8 FPV wing. Could someone direct me to some downloadable plans or simply provide me some dos and donts.

My plane is:
X8
2m span
Flyingwing
Pusher prop

My Field is - Smooth ( its a football field we use for flying on Sundays )

Main questions are:

Should the X8 "sit " in a made to fit surface ?

Or should it be completely flat ?

Thanks very much

I've been flying gliders for many years, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a dolly used for launching. Probably a good idea for large models, however.

Our field is probably a bit rougher than yours, but we use a dolly to retrieve winch lines at our contest. Based on that, I recommend that you use light wheels that are reasonably large. Our cart uses maybe 10 inch wheels, but I imagine you could get by with somewhat smaller ones. We were using wheels that were quite a bit smaller, but they didn't work very well.

Should not be hard to scratch one out.
The diameter and type of wheels could be adjusted for the terrain you expect to fly from.

Link has one easy style;

Also, a youtube search for sailplane dolly and such shows quite a few.

That sure look's like a Me-163 Komet. What about launching rail's and a high start lashup? I'm just curious doesn't anybody over on the electric forum know how to do any of this sort of thing?

BTW the 163 had a takeoff dolly and it had to come off at a certain low altitude or it might bounce back up and hit it. It did happen and there were losses. It would land on a lead lined skid as the fuel was extremely volitile.
