RG712BX (JR receiver)

Hia,

Anyone out there using this receiver?

There a thread already on it but not much feedback regarding it use. It's said it consumes less power and doesn't require the satellite module to send telemetry.

I have been useing two 731BX recievers in powered planes with no problems...But I use 631B recievers for my DLGs and I'm very happy with them. A 600 MHr battery yeilds two plus hours of flying.

The 712BX receiver seems to work nicely. The benefits are that it does not need a satellite to have downlink capability and that the current drain is lower. I got a bit of reasonable weather today to do some test flying and it appears that it translates my commands to the airplane reliably, even at my eyesight limits. It works very well for F3K once you remove the bulky plastic case.

I just ordered one a couple of days ago. Is reassuring to read the above line. The plastic case is around 6gr so replacing that with shrink tube will bring the weight to around 10gr for a diversity antenna and telemetry capable receiver, not bad IMO.

The other point im curious is battery consumption, it might give for sure better times than the 831B+Sat (what I currently use).

If you are currently using the 831, then you will be very familiar with the form factor for the 712 receiver. I have been using the 631 rx for f3k recently (used to use the 831), and I think I lost some weight by switching to the 712 as I do not need the remote anymore. BTW, I removed the plastic case and used tape to wrap the rx instead up using heat shrink. Lighter and less bulky. YMMV...

Just weighed the 712 rx.

The case is 6.48g. The rx without the case is 8.67g. The case weighs almost as much as the rx. I suspect that about 25% of the rx weight is the antennae...

Add: for reference, the 631 rx weighs 12.34g with the case removed on the remote satellite (satellite included on this weight). The 631 rx (with its thin plastic sheet case) weighs 9.12g without the satellite. So, I lost weight by going to the 712 rx from the 631 rx.

sure, and i wanted to write diversity receiver but got mislead by JR's way of selling it. I guess they put the word antenna to make clear is dual(?)... anyhow, if the 831B works, then the 712BX will be even better.

I'm not sure why they undersell this. It's a good feature. It costs some power, but is pretty reliable.

The fact that this Rx weighs less than the 631 with downlink capability makes it very appealing!! I will be ordering atleast a couple to test. Hope they fit in a Concept X4 ...
