Been using helicopter motors in EDFs for a bit over a year now. While they don't put out like a true EDF motor does, they are certainly useable to the task. For example, that 4400kv outrunner heli motor you have is likely rated around 550 watts and is probably 28mm in dia. and around 40 - 42mm in length. Comparing to the ARC 28-48-1, the ARC is similar in size and rated wattage, but that's where it ends - the ARC will take waaaay beyond 550 watts and stay alive, at power levels the outrunner will wind up as smoking hot molten metal.
For the less-demanding apps, heli motors are great, especially when considering their cost. Just don't expect them to perform at levels comparable to true EDF motors. |
