I would really like to try kevlar or peel ply hinges on the wings of the 40% scale ASG29 I am building and could do with some help and tips. I tried to use peel ply for the elevator and it nearly worked but I found it difficult to get the clearance on the top surface and then sort of glued everything back together when I tried to face the lower surfaces. My Father in Law lives in Christchurch and is coming over to the UK in mid June - is there a gizmo I could buy off you and he could bring to make it easier?

I'm not sure I would fully trust silicone for my hinges at this scale because I seem to be useless at doing those too!

Regards

Simon

tonight I cut the tip joiner tubes into the end of the first wing panel. Had some fun with the foam cutter when it decided to do something odd. The left X axis missed steps going up at the wrong moment and put a skewed cut into the foam. Had a play with it and it would go down 10mm but then only 6. Did it a few times and not sure what it was. Adjusted the time values between steps, and checked all the drive thread connections, but nothing found. Working well agian now.

Have you made something up out of lathe tool bits? Any chance of a picture.

Yep, some High Speed Steel bits ground like thin parting-off tips. I scrap the outer surface along a straight edge till I get to the kevlar, but depending how I do the other side depends on if I cut a bevel, or cut behind the hinge and run a wiper..

Pulled the first panel out of the bag today. Looks really good! A little dry on the side I layed up, but the side Neal and Graham did is perfect! Really surprised how stiff and strong it is!

Throwing blades

Alex
Don't forget to bring some dlg throwing blades when you come up to Blenheim. I will take a couple - would prefer sanded/finished ones. Thanks.

Any more progress on your ASW28-18 project? I have booked the new, larger field for our next aerotow here in Blenheim in July and it would be great to have a few more BIG scalies at the next one, as we now have ample runway and airspace to handle them.
