PM'd him .

Although it's tx only. Actually, If you buy the 10C kit brand new from PowerGrunt Hobbies for $600 and sell the $260 rx that comes with it then it's not really much of a bargain.

Hi There,
Welcome aboard.
Its still not too late to reconsider, as you will possibly become addicted.
Most guys find that 36Mhz is the preferred frequency.
Seems to give better range and is more resilient when obstacles get in the way.
Most guys use Futaba.
9Ch is very popular but you can have less. 7 is doable.
More is better.
Get a good handle on RC flying first before trying to FPV.
Range is extremely variable depending on how you set up your plane, as extra electronics can affect your rc reception, but a well setup 36Mhz should be good for at least 1.5-2Km.
I personally havent flown beyond 3600ft away yet, but am being cautious.
There are long range setups you can attach to your R/C to go 15Km+.
Check out the stickys at the entance to the forum. Theres most of the stuff there that you need to know.
Cheers
Frank

Cheap FPV

Hi guys. I am a reasonably experienced pilot (enjoying flying scale, 3-D and helis), and I've decided to have a go at FPV, but first I want to do a really cheap and simple set-up to see if I enjoy it.

I want to set something up with about 200-300 metres range so I can fly around my local park. I will be using a small electric foamie trainer style plane. Plane only weighs about 300 grams, and I'll be flying very low and slow (say 50 to 100ft altitude). Park is about 300 x 500m square, and I only fly when there is no-one around...so no safety issues flying such a small plane low and slow. I'll also use a spotter with buddy box (yes, I'm paranoid).

I only have 2.4G Spektrum radio gear, and am hoping not to have to buy anything else, at least for this venture.

I was thinking of trying one of those combined Camera/AV transmitter/AV receiver setups that you can buy for $35 on ebay, making up the goof proof patch antenna to suit, and simply using my laptop to display the picture. Definitely not wanting to get into gyro pan/tilt system, although could use a simple servo connected to the rudder for pan if I want.

Firstly, which frequency should I get? I guess 2.4G is no good with my Spektrum gear, so should I get 900M or 1.2G? I have read that 900M may clash with mobile phones, but that 1.2G could have a second harmonic that would clash with the 2.4 GHz. (The 2nd harmonic idea throws me a bit, as I always thought it was odd harmonics such as 3rd, etc that were generated by any waveform distortion.)

Also, am I going to upset anyone using either of those frequencies? If so, and given I only want the limited range, what is the minimum power that I should be able to get away with, as they are available in many power ranges. (100mW, 200mW, 500mW, etc.)

Thanks,
Harrow.

P.S. I can already hear suggestions that I should buy a decent setup to start (36MHz radio, etc.), but really, I just want to have a simple dabble at the moment as I don't have time (or storage space!) to get serious with this at the moment due to current family/work situation.
