Free Plan - The SimRaC 3D Jet v7

Original (v1-6) thread here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328440

P.s. V7.2 is out, see third post for download!

I've been once again been persuaded to share the (new) design after very many successful and fun flights, this is now the 3D version 7 with many refinements along the way, in particular the canards have been dropped for simplicity. They didn't have as great an effect as the current large elevons have.

The plans assume quite a bit of depron-building experience and the setup a reasonably competent pilot, this is not a beginners plane, it's a light-weight 3D pusher prop jet

The pic shows the motor on a yawable mount and while this adds an extra dimension to flying, it's really not neccessary and is not shown on the plan.

It was basically a Simple Rafale-type Canard hence the name SimRaC (although the canards have now been dropped)

Main material: 6mm Depron and some carbon spars, glues used can be hotmelt (turn off the gun b4 it gets too hot - test on a scrap piece first) or 5-30 min epoxy or whatever you use for depron.

Ideally needs a 1700kv, 35gram motor and a 6x4 prop, around 100W, 12A ESC and a 800-1000mAh 3S LiPo. Don't put a prop larger than 7 inch on as the torque effects overpower the wing and make launches unpleasant.

Also Don't over power it, it's not intended for that and the resulting deforming wing twist plays havoc with control.

It doesn't stall - just mushes along, can be very fast yet can slow up to a hover in a light breeze, landings are really easy - pancake technique with no forward speed or smooth and slow. If you follow the setup on the PDF plans then it will be very docile on low rates but EXTREMELY acrobatic on high rates, use with caution (my v7 has had 8 nose replacements!!). It's actually worth building a couple extra noses as they are inevitably what gets damaged after an 'oopsie'

Just two cheap 9gram servo's (elevon mixing) are required but the aircraft is very manoeuvrable - doing the 'cobra' well and it's speciality, the 'leaf impersonation'!

The Secret to this planes' manoeuvrability is:
Elevons:
low rates = 20%/0% exponential, 10-15mm up/down movement (no more)
high rates = 100%/70% exponential

C.G as indicated on the plan (note: 390mm forward from motor plate.)

In the zip are 9 PDF's, #1-8 are 100% A4-sized tiles (just print 1:1 and stick together) and the 9th is the whole plan, all measurements are metric millimeters.

enjoy

Graham

Addendum: CG must be 390mm from motor plate NOT 340mm as is shown on the plans. Will upload revised plan shortly.

V7.2

The new version v7.2 is now available, new are mostly small enhancements, better instructions on the plan and a corrected CG.

Follow the instructions on the easy free plan for an really amazing depron plane.

If you build one, PLEASE post a few photos or a video here!
