Jim, what if kgoodone, added s-107 blades to the outriggers, to add a little more bite, for forward thrust??? Just asking

Hi Jim,

The s107 blades would add more thrust, but I don't know if there is enough clearance to use the full blade. I guess they could always be cut down to fit the clearance avalible.

Or the stock blades could be modified to the stacked version and you would still have the same blade diameter.

I tilted my tail motor forward slightly on my Interceptor 052 just to see how it would act and now it goes almost twice as fast, wonder why the people who build coaxials dont do this..Name: tailmodfast.jpg

Starting out slow, I'll go bigger blades when I see how reacts with the small ones. (expanding the envelope in flight test)

Yeah, I want to try that too, I'd also like to try pushing from the boom like a sikorsky x-2..

Today's results,

Stripped BLING off of tail. Forward motion with load is better (it comes back, That's good right?)

Tried to fire off pod, but no signal from the transmitter. Worked on that and found a couple of cold solder joints. Transmitter back up.

Will try again tomorrow, forecast for North Edwards is wind 3kts....

When you get it all sorted out, are you going to do a video? It will be interesting to see what difference the pod makes to the flight capabilities.

If there is such a thing as a successful Failure, I had it today...

Jim I'll get you a video as soon as a repair my heli.

The pod did something that I kinda predicted, but was counting on other forces to overcome what I thought it was going to do.

IT ROLLED BACKWARDS. Not very much, but enough to get the idea that I will have to re-locate the thrust point on the center of gravity.

The successful part was was finding out that my tail setting was on low on the radio, When I engaged the radio on high, Wow! not the same bird. I made a turn push forward and it shot off Like I've never seen.

So, I'm not discouraged by my heli falling from the sky (total power off at 40ft, I'm thinking current protection kicking in when the battery gets low because of the bigger main blades). Yeah she's busted up, But I saw SPEED and I want to repeat it.

Things I'm working on putting on rev 2
Bigger battery, LiPo 1800ma min
Installing my battery warning telemetry system. ( I use this for my airplanes )
Install a video camera on the heli.

and develop a radio system for the heli because I'm NOT HAPPY with the current radios. Pictures will follow later this evening.

Interesting tid-bit

I found this while doing some research. This might explain tail effectiveness in forward flight. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Aftermath

This is what when power cuts at 40 ft. I'll be rebuilding this at home.
