Unfortunately, we haven't had any thermalling wx since I read the book & watched the videos. There is no lift over snow-covered ground. The air is glassy-smooth - just like it is when flying over water. I'll have to wait until spring to practice what I've learned. On the up-side - the glassy air is perfect for shooting on-board video. ![]() Joel |

Be sure to read through it a couple times and try everything out with no prop as stated. Once you memorize what everything does, then go fly. I'm pretty sure it's based on horizons setup, but tweaked and modified to work better. |

Hard to believe it's been 7mos since I've flown her! Today was a blast!
Now I know what you guys are talking about regarding the wing flex! I've always flown in the early AM but today it was early afternoon & she was flexing! Winds were a steady 3-5mph at the surface & blowing harder up at altitude. Temp was 26C/79F. But I had so much fun! Used an 1800mAh batt along with the Contour Roam & she was HEAVY! Next was the stock 1300mAh & no camera & she was soaring perfect! 28min flight. Also decided to try Mixing RUDD with AIL..... I LOVE it!! I never thought i'd do that Mix but I really like it! Mrs. Claus got me a GoPro3 for Xmas so I'll definitely be swapping out cameras! Another item added on the To Do List with her, get that arrow shaft for the spar!! Unfortunately the two locations in my area did NOT sell them alone, only in packs of 12!!!! |

An arrow shaft is not the best choice for a CF wing spar. Arrow shafts have very thin walls, and they are only marginally stiffer than the stock spar. What you need is a CF rod that has walls that are about the same thickness as the stock FG spar. The arrow shaft does have a purpose, however, as the perfect replacement for the fuselage stiffener for the rear of the plane.

This is the best present you can possibly buy for your Radian Pro. Installing it is easy, but the hard part is finding one, and paying more for shipping than for the rod itself. Not only does it stop the wings from flexing, but the plane becomes lighter. The stiffer wings also make the ailerons more effective.

Well, it was kind of a really late reply to this:

Just my opinion: yes the GoPros are amazing camers - for the intended purpose which is up close video of personal action sports, but they are a poor choice for AP. The FOV is much too wide, producing images with too little detail of distant objects. Moreover the attendant spherical distortion that caused curved horizons is annoying.
I know I will get a lot of push-back on this but again, just my opinion as a long-time photographer. |
