Naze32 - RC Rate vs. Roll and Pitch Rate

What is the difference between RC Rate (on the screen with the RC Expo), and Roll and Pitch Rate?

Does RC Rate control roll, pitch, AND yaw rates while Roll and Pitch rate just controls the rate of the Roll and Pitch?

I'm trying to set up my FPV racer quad to do flips while in Horizon mode. I need to bump up the rates a bit. Just want to understand what the numbers I'm changing will actually do.

Any ideas?

RC rate is linear and is for sticks near the center (P&R). RC Expo puts a expo curve on the RC Rate.
P/R Rate is a 'super' expo that increases effective throw when sticks are farther from center.
Neither changes the Yaw rate. the Yaw rate does this independently.

I adjust RC rate with some expo for a nice fell and easy leveling (I only fly ACRO mode) with sticks near center. Then increase R/P rate for rolls/flips at the speed I desire.
I do have much higher rates on my LOS Acro quads than on my FPV quads.

What RC rate and R/P rate do you have for your LOS quads? Mine is currently only LOS until I can afford a nice FPV setup.

On my Warp Quads:
Mild aerobatic for relaxed flying:
RCRate = 1.80
RC Expo = 0.40
P/R Rate = 0.3
Yaw = 0.30

Hot Aerobatic:
RCRate = 2.10
RC Expo = 0.30
P/R Rate = 0.6
Yaw = 0.45
I setup these in two Profiles so I can easily switch with a stick command.

For my FPV mini-Hs (very mild):
RCRate = 1.15
RC Expo = 0.45
P/R Rate = 0.5
Yaw = 0.25

Hi Waltr,

Can I assume that RC Expo of 0.45 equals 45% ?

If the Max Expo is 1.00 then 0.45 is 45% of the maximum Expo.
But since this creates an exponential curve that is applied to the stick movement modifying the value send to the FC's control loop what does 45% mean anyway?

I never bother trying to relate most of the FC values into anything real world. Just whether the value should be smaller or bigger.

I adjust the Rates and Expos by feel.
If too touchy near center stick then increase the RC Expo.
If the copter does not move (roll/pitch) fast enough for the stick input then I increase the RC rate.
If I put too much Yaw stick in during turns then I decrease the Yaw Rate.
For aerobatics I adjust the RC/Yaw rates and Expo for 'normal' flying/hovering. Then increase the R/P Rates to get flips and rolls as fast as I desire.

Awesome, that explains a few things, I'll give it a shot

I guess I'm just struggling trying to find a good mix between avoiding overcontrol of the quad and being able to do fast axial rolls.

Yep, it does take some experimentation to find the combination you like.

The higher you set RC rates the more Expo is desired to keep the sticks smooth near center.

I'm also assuming you should set expo on the radio, only on the FC?

Typically NO expo in the radio, only set Expo in the FC.
