Also how can you determine if the battery pack is n, c, a, aa or what?
I need to know this stuff to charge properly

A little tricky - you can charge it based on its being a Ni-Cd and see what
you get for a discharge. For an AA size cell .580 dia X 1.9 long the maximum
capacity would be around 1100 mAh - if it is a Ni-MH you would get
significantly more - 1400 minium. Unless you happen to have come upon some
really sick cells.

These are physical sizes, N=.38 diameter, C (I think you mean sub-C or Cs)
it is .88 , AA is .580 and A is .66 actual sizes will vary slightly
depending on manufacture and oversleeve thickness.

on the different cells. Not sure how to tell NiCd from NiMh. Probably on
the website somewhere.

You can determine the size (AA, AAA, C, sub-C etc) by measuring the
diameter and length.

If the cells are in plain uncoloured wrappers with no markings there
is no easy way to tell if they are NiCd or NiMH.
