Help!
Need assistance with stick-built structures in Solidworks

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a consensus on the best method for modeling stick-built structures in SW. I'm not terribly experienced, but I'm finding the program relatively easy to adopt.

I'm trying to re-engineer the nose section of a free-flight/rc conversion Bellanca Aircruiser. (Build thread here.) The way it's drawn on the original plan is incorrect; literally impossible to build as drawn.

Below is an image of my most recent effort. I started with the former, no problem there. I then drew a 3-D sketch of the nose stringer locations. I created a custom weldament profile for 1/16" balsa which I used to generate the 3D stringers.

This method is easy and does get me close. Really, this is close enough for me to build what I need, but I would really love to be able to produce a truly clean version so that in the future I can output quality plans.

As you can see in the image below there are some problem areas where things overlap, or edges don't line up. Is there a way to clean these up, or should I be drawing with some other method?

Thanks in advance!
Jesse

as best I can tell from your attached thumbnails, you need to "extrude to surface", or "extrude to next" on some of your structural members. Solidworks treats everything just as it would be in the real world. If you are trying to use a piece of 1/4" sq. x 2 7/8" lg in many places that are not exactly 2 7/8" lg, it will show up. P.M me and I'll be glad to show you how to fix this.

Thanks for the offer, but I got it figured out.

The Trim/Extend Structural Members tool is what I needed, just like you said. Looking much cleaner now!
