Has anyone tried the Sabre 44 from valuehobby?

I was browsing thru VH's ARF planes and noticed the Sabre 35 has a little bit bigger brother! the Sabre 44 profile. wondering if anyone has tried one? and what kind of setup works best? the recommended setup is never right...

I just finished and soloed the Sabre 44. I used a Tacon Big Foot 25 motor, 13x4 prop, 40 amp ESC and the reccomended MG sevos. I was surprised at how tail heavy it is and had to use a 4000 4s battery mounted way up front to get the CG to work out. So far so good. But it is a tail heavy config! Anybody else? I have all 3 of these profiles. 35, 44, and 47.

I decided to fill in the suff I didn't post before.
Here is all the specs and equipment I used:

4s 40c 4000 Chinahobbyline Battery
Tacon Power 25 870kv Motor
Dynma Detrum 40 amp ESC (Hobby Wing Pentium)
Power HD 1711MG Metal Gear Servos
13x4 APC clone prop
R610 Hobby King Orange DSM2 receiver

Bench Test:
16.6 Volts
47.6 Amps (static)
739 Watts (static)
2 lbs. 3 oz. without battery
3 lbs 3 oz. with battery

CG seems good at 4" from leading edge.
This required everything way forward. The baterry is monted vertical just behind the motor mount.
I know I am running the Tacon way over suggested wattge but I don't use full throttle a lot, the motor hasn't felt hot, and I have been using the same setup in a Stik 48 for several years. These are great $20.00 motors if you haven't tried them. They are at Hobby Partz.

Wow, a one pound battery in a 3 pound plane. Hate to hear that because it looks like a nice plane. Thanks for posting your setup.

Yeah maybe if somebody was smart enough to send me a link

4" sounds nose heavy? Ill have to check mine, but I've been in Dallas for work for three weeks, very busy lately..
This plane is something the factory came up with on their own, they asked me if they could do it I said sure.. They did fly it with 4s 2200's I thought.. I have not even flown mine yet

Btw here is how I reduced some weight in the tail, didn't use the included iron plate they included and I didn't use an of those oversize wheel collars either.. Every bit helps.. Also on the main wheels I used spacers from APC props instead of the heavy wheel collars and cut the shafts close after mounting the wheels, use lock tight on those things too

Hey Spaz it's your frigging airplane you look for the thread.

And while your at it throw that stupid landing gear in the trash if you wanna save some weight.

Here's a video of my friend AD3D flying his Sabre-44 without a one pound battery.
Sabre-44 (6 min 13 sec)

I can't remember his power system but it was a "torque" motor with real bad bearings and a 4 cell pack.

Thank you Wulf. Your welcome Spaz

You are going to have to figure out how to get a bunch of weight out of the tail if you want to hit the 4" COG with your target weight. I was astounded that I had to use a 1 pound battery as far forward as I could get i. BTW it flies very balanced so the COG is fairly close as specified. IMO, this is not the first VH design that was either a blind scale up or was a quick gas conversion. That being said I have a ton of planes from VH and will continue to buy from them. But this isn't nearly as well balanced as the 35. It sure would have been better with a longer nose section.

Longer nose = less tumble. Just use 4 or 6s power.

Mine is getting a 40fp. Should be plenty of weight I'm thinking lol.
