Well here are 3 canadates for the NAKED Wood,First plane is a E-sport 8(rob smith) second is Do335 (ted biggs) third is a Bud Nosen J3 Cub.All planes been hanging at least 8 plus years?

The Ulu Mk III. I designed the first Ulu around 1990, for an Astro .40 direct drive on 18 to 20 1600 MaH Nicads. Loved the plane (built another Mk I and a Mk II), but with only about 3 minutes of power, it just wasn't worth continuing to refine.

I originally drew the Ulu up on paper, but made a CAD copy when I started playing around with CAD. I'm glad I did. Now that we have large capacity, low weight Lipos, though, I decided to revamp the Ulu by scaling it down (from 600 squares to 432) and using a Power 15 on a 3 or 4S pack.

The wing is balsa-sheeted foam core (per the original), but the rest of the structure is completely re-engineered. So far, it looks like the weight will be in the low 40's (ounce-wise), with a 3S2200. If need be, I'll go to a 4S2200.

Still to be fitted (as of this picture) are the ailerons. I"m not looking forwards to it, but I also need to mold the canopy....aren't may commercially available ones the way there was when I built the Mk I.

When I busted the fuselage on my E-flite ARF a few years ago I built a custom fuselage as a replacement. Actually, the design is based on flipping the original over to make the plane a low-wing, and building a turtle-deck/"canopy" to improve the looks. The greatest benefit is the comparatively huge battery hatch and freedom in battery placement with the new design.
I've just completed this third iteration with a custom wing based on the MUS airfoil and plan-form, but with hidden servos and d-cell leading edge. The vertical surfaces are custom copies too. The horizontal surfaces are all that remain of the original ARF.
The covering keeps the plane's original colors to pay homage to the ARF origins.

We have the very same battery box in our Cub, but
it loads from the bottom.

Hey Jim, that's an interesting "Whynot". Tell me a little more about it, will ya?

The "Whynot" is a .25 size version of my Fiasco Sport, a plane that I have been flying for many years. This plane came about from a marketing request that fell through. At the time I was left with a set of plans without a name or any immediate intentions to build. I finally decided whynot build it. So "Whynot".
It has a 48" wingspan, a wing area of 420 sq. in. and a length of 36". This model is built in a tailwheel configuration but also can be built with tricycle gear. It will be powered by a GMS .25. I am also posting a thread on the build of this model on this forum.
