Kyosho T-33 fan - UP TO THE TASK?

I have a stock Kyosho T-33 fan in my box of goodies - I have a Typhoon 2W-20 motor that would fit. Was planning on 4 cells - Is this fan up to the task, and is the 2W-20 up to the task. Was going to shoe horn into a GWS A-4

Help is much appreciated

Run the risk of having the fan explode..............Kyosho fan is good for about 450 - 500 watts.

Cut the rotor down to 66mm and use it in the Wemo 505 or Wattage shroud. I have had it up to 750W. Right now in a foamy F-16 with the 2W20 and wattage shroud on 4s 2200. 650W Once you cut them down you can really add more watts. Less mass to blow apart. And they will do that.

I reckon the it will...
My T-33 is running the stock fan with a I can't remember what motor, and I'm running only 4s..
These are the numbers
854.5watts @55.38amps
6.2wh
0.416ah
14.85vm

and it goes like the clappers

Fitting this question should arise. My scratch built F9F Panther used the Ky fan and a HET2W motor on 2S, ~350 watts.

This morning, on the F9F's 305th flight, the impeller came apart during the hand launch. Alas, the F9F stalled at about 20 feet AGL, came down pretty hard, crushing the front end back to the front of the canopy.

So if my Ky fan survived 304 flights at 350 watts, it is safe to assume it will survive at higher power loadings with a corresponding reduced number of flights. This assumes, of course, completely homogeneous materials as well a a balanced impeller.

A very simple approach would be to ratio the number of flights as a function of input power. Predicting serviceable life span as a function of the number of use cycles is a bit more complex.

My F9F is repairable but I won't bother. She has served me well for five years.

what power plant are you using?...Stock!
also are you running 3s or 4s /

I've had mine on 6s with a whooping 1183watts @64amps
I wont do that again..to fast,it's fast enough on 4s besides I'm upgrading to a HET fan an 3w15 typhoon motor so we will see what happens next

I was using the stock fan and a mega 16-15-2 on 2x2200 3S, after the rotor let go I used a HET 6904. the Het 6904 shroud slipped inside the Kyosho shroud.

It flies really nice, will cruise at 35 - 40% throttle and loop at 60% power. I bought another airframe to go with a silver scheme.like below.

I did put the aileron servoes in the wing and imbedded the elevator servo on the rear exterior fuselage. I'll put a rudder servo in the next one.

Roger,(airsally) has my plugs for making the glass ducting, to fit a 70mm fan. With the ducting, the strip ail set-up must be changed to dual. I recut them from TE stock and used CA hinges. Micro servos will lay flat with just a little plastic cover. I then opened up the stock servo compartment to allow additional cooling intake.

Hey all,
Well have been flying this thing on 4s at the moment ...that's a constent
854watt==>700watt for 4.5mins WOT...knew that the stock powerplant wouldn't hold up for long,it was cutting in an out as I setup for my landing..then died
but that's ok,I've got a new 1 coming from HK with a bit more power,about 1.2kg thrust
Can't wait for the new powerplant to arrive...This is one awesome aircraft

Blade reinforcement

After blowing 2 Kyosho fans in my Kyosho F-16, I reinforced the fan by putting a small fillet of epoxy reinforced with microfibers at the base of each blade. The failures occur at the base due to the combination of bending and tension loads. The epoxy distributes the bending loads away from the sharp corner. No more failures.

maiden

Hey all, well I finally got to maiden my Xmas prezzy from the kid's today...as expected it flow very well only with a couple of click's down on the 1st flight, but that was sorted out with the battery,I also flow with the wing tanks on and off....I even had one tank drop off cause they weren't glued on and still ain't,but it feels like it didn't have any effect on the stabilty as it flew, decided to land..which took a lap an a half of the field came down with a few big bounces, then we are down..maiden is over...thank god that's over

Even as a much maligned model, the Ky T33 served many of us very well. It was adaptable to glass ducting for a big performance boost but was easily hand launched, even as stock. It was the forerunner of all the EDF's that came to follow.

I don't know if it was Kyosho's dumb luck or by design to come up with this winner but most of the current vendors of in-expensive ARF's could learn a great deal from Kyosho's design.
