18x24" Campaign Sign + Odwalla bottle electric engine mount
Hello!
I just completed a successful test flight (sorry, no video yet) of my newly designed coroplast electric R/C airplane and put up a blog post showing how to build it. That is a pretty nifty little plane design. Post a video of it flying, if you get a chance.
Yeah I do go around and scarf up a few of the signs after the election too. I like to get a few of those big 4x8 foot signs too. |

I built an FNS using 4mm standard 18x24 signs using the RNAF technique and it flew just fine. I routed out a 3/8" groove on the top piece so it would fold over and it worked with no problems.
New User, if you're just getting started, you might like to try out the FNS or FNS-40 if you've got an old .40 engine laying around somewhere. The FNS is really simple to build and amazingly agile for just a rudder controlled plane. There's so much dihedral in the wing they'll turn on a dime and with having no ailerons, you can build the wing in about a half hour. What are you lost on? Well I was looking at building a flat wing because I already have my trainers. Plus I was looking at doing electric but I have an .40 or .46 that hasn't ran in about 5 years.
I think the biggest thing is the main wing and the shape(like the airfoil) and do I have to angle the motor or engine any? I'm looking at building one of the buhor models. |

No you don't have to angle the motor. Some of the plans say to, but pretty much everyone builds everything straight now. A lot of folks use the BUHOR with the flat wing for a sport plane. If you wanted a faster roll rate, you could probably chop a couple inches off the end of each wing without hurting anything other than increasing your wing loading a bit. If you build it straight to plans, you'll get a nice airfoil like they show in the plans. If you wanted a symmetrical airfoil, you can glue the trailing edge first, then slide the spar in and get it where you want it, and then drizzle CA down the wing where it meets the spar.

I thought you meant flat wing as in no dihedral.
You must be talking flat as in the QHor, Gnat or Spa3D. I've never seen anyone make a BUHOR with a flat wing and no airfoil.As for engine angle, I've never seen enough of a problem to worry about the offset, but I'm not the most graceful flyer out there. Most everyone on spadworld.net just recommends to mount the engines straight so that's what I started doing and it's worked out ok for me.
