Norm Page Mach One

Guys

I am looking for information regarding an actual Norm Page model. I am wondering if anyone may have any info regarding one of Norm's models.

The reason being is that the AMA is looking to add the model to their pattern display.

If you have any information please contact me.

kanedjr (at) hotmail . com

Thanks

Mach One

Hi,

I have one of the original Midwest Mach 1 kits new in the box sitting in storage. You might remember me as I was at the controline flying site for the dedication in my son's name Cdr. Willie McCool, pilot of the space shuttle Coulmbia.

Please feel free to contact me about this kit.

Dr. Barry McCool, AMA# 43789

Hi Dan,

You may want to read this to start with:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_99..._1/key_/tm.htm

And why not try to contact the source, Norm Page himself, if he is still around?
He must have much info about his Mach 1.

I had a Mach 1 myself in the 1970th.

You can also briefly see (Norm Page probably flying) Norm Page Mach 1 in the AMA video of 7th World Championship in USA 1971:

http://www.seniorpattern.com/video/
(press the button in lower right corner when playing the video to get it in full screen)

23:06 Norm Page Mach 1 is 3 Roll maneuver (just brief part of it)
23:17 Norm Page Mach 1 is performing a Wing over (as part of Figure M)
23:25 Norm Page Mach 1 is in the Spinn maneuver

You just have to sit and watch the video until it is at 23 minutes where You must be ready to be able to spot the Mach 1 in the next 30 sec.
It is the plane with red wing and white AMA letters on the wing that is Mach 1.

I do not know if Norm Page was competing at the 1971 WC.
I do not know what Year above AMA video was produced.
But it is his Mach 1 flying in above AMA video for sure at the 3 times mentioned.
Norm Page was competing at the WC 1973 in Italy and placed 5th with his Mach 1.

There is also a picture of his previos model "FAI Avenger" at this link:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...m.htm#10560002

He had at least a blue and yellow, and a red and yellow, FAI Avenger.

/Bo

Some history

Hi

My unclel flew with him some were in southern CAl / LA/ Long Beach area in the late / early 1970 at a flying field in next to some oil fields not the Birds flying site.

The fist one used curved formers then came the log cabin style with the formers on cardboard and you needed to cut them out then you will need a lot of sandpaper for the final shape.

They went to a fiberglas fuslage style in late 1970. I saw the orginal one fly well as his other model.

It ws a real treat to see the master at the top of his craft using a fine tool .I am building kit number 124 now. My uncle has many notes on the Mack 1 and a 20 size Mack 1 model also they were working on.

I know there are several versions of this model. I think the Midwest version is different than Norm's original. Mike M. (Mups53 on R C U) flew and knew Norm pretty well back in the day. Might want to contact him for some added info.

I am fairly certain the OP is looking for a historically significant, original Norm Page built model, that was originally owned and flown by Norm Page himself.

Lemme get this straight. The AMA which changed the rules, not adding new rules but cutting the old ones that allowed the common r/c pattern enthusiast to compete and be involved. Pattern contests would attract hundreds to an event. It was good for the community. Now it's just an exclusive club for the few wealthy to pat each other on the back an claim bragging rights by narrowing the competition. Until they add the old pattern rules back in, I will never ever join again nor any club that requires their membership. If i had that model they would have to pry it out of my cold dead hand.

Why hold back? Tell us how you really feel!

You may be happy to see the resurgence of Non-Turnaround pattern flying. We are using the classic planes, and flying the classic rule cycles. These have been incorporated into AMA contests with great success as recently as last fall, and through-out the year, across the USA, and has built tremendous interest.

The AMA has taken notice-btw.

Hoping a true Norm Page model will be found! It is great to see the interest in this.

This is correct. Sorry for the poor wording in my original post. Yes the AMA is looking for an "original" Norm Page model, that was originally owned and flown by Norm Page himself.

Thanks for any info on tracking a model down.
