i have the HSP 1/8 crawler and was thinking of putting a couple of 1500kv - 1800kv outrunner motors in the gearboxes for the tourqe value of them, i have many years of brushless motors

i would like to know if anyone has used them and what mods they did ?

if i use a low kv motor on 2s or 3s im still getting low RPM's

1:48 gear ratio (front and rear gearboxes
wheel diameter = 182mm

i've seen a few people use outrunners on the redcat rs10. alot of guys use the brushless inrunners in their losi comp and night crawlers.

couple drawbacks of brushless is no drag brake, and they MUST be sensored motors on a crawler. if your planning on adding dual esc's and the motors your planning on are sensored, then it could work decent.

i would think it would be more cost effective and actually a ton easier to just used good brushed motors. holmes hobbies, team br00d, and even some of the tekin handwounds would provide just as much torque, be easier to hook up, and have outstanding drag brake.

im not looking for all out speed (its for my boys aswell) hence why i was thinking of brushless

i stick with brushed, what turn motor would most people suggest ? i was thinking 55T or above ?

55T is a good brushed for straight crawling. Depending on the esc you are using you could also run lower turns to add some speed if you want. For bashing around the yard and rock bouncing. I have a 27t silvercan johnson in my Ax10. Or from what I remember they are 27t. Its not really fast but fun and still has a good bit of torq to it. Then I have an Axial 55t for more extreme crawling. I am running a traxxas xl5 speed control too. Depends how you are running your truck. A 35t wouldnt be too bad to run.

55t might be a little slow, i would suggest a 35t. depending on your budget, a 35t handwound from holmes hobbies, or team br00d would be the best. if you need cheap, the integy 35t would do.

the axial, rc4wd, and a few other motors are seal can motors. they are way down on power compaired to the one's i mentioned. also they are not rebuildable and are made very cheaply so they don't hold up near as long.

Good point on the sealed can motors.

I did a little more research and over on rccrawler.com there are a few guys experimenting with small outrunner motors. From what I see they have had a good bit of success with them with over an hour of run time. Looks like the main drawback is making an adapter for the smaller motor they are using. I havent looked to see if they make outrunners with a 25mm bolt pattern yet. Just thought I would pass on what I have come across

instead of an adapter plate, could just modify the motor mount holes on the motor to accomadate the smaller motor
