New E-Flite Allusive

Just pre-ordered one of these puppies:

I've been looking for a new motor glider; I have a Calypso, and have been less than enthralled with it. Almost bought a Solius, but I just am not happy with foam. And the Mystique was just a bit too involved (and large) for my tastes.

This thing looks to be a "tweener"... not a full-blown thermaller, but leagues above your typical Radian, Calypso, etc.

Not cheap, at $330 for just the air frame. But its only money, right???

Dude said they're expecting a mid-April arrival... which probably means June.

Just looked at specs on this thing ,, here's the breakdown :
Aspect ratio : 14 to 1,, so fairly high, which should translate into pretty good Glide ratio at this wingspan,, Wingloading at 12.6,, a little high for thermalling ( high sink rate)
No flaps, and ailerons look small so no chance for camber changing to slow her down for thermalling OR for landing/glide path control . Power 15 on 3s won't make her exactly a hotliner for sure, would better on 4s if you wanted at least moderately fast climbout . They don't specify airfoil, so that's an unknown at this point.
So,, Exactly into what category DO you put this plane in??
Maybe someone from HH can chime in??

Looks warmliner-ish along the lines of the GP Siren. Same with the Siren, it flies ok with a 3S but really flies nice with a 4S. I had to do some mods to get the Siren to..well, stay together with 4S power. Maybe this bird will be hot rodable straight out of the box. Looks nice anyhow.

The category of "not the complexity/expense/performance of a full-house elecric sailplane, but a TON better than a steenkin' foamie".

I hear what you're saying regarding the numbers, but reflexing the ailerons should provide SOME lift (or drag, depending on which way), eh?

In any event, I'm not a hard-core glider guy, so perhaps my expectations are a bit... shall we say... lower?

Who knows,, could be a REAL fun plane,, depending on airfoil chosen,, it could turn out to be a fairly good thermaller,,, as you said, if your not expecting contest performance out of it, could be fun!! At least its relatively cheap :-),,, the possible downside to this could be that it doesn't do ANYTHING well :-(
Sometimes try to do EVERYTHING means it can't do any ONE thing that well.

Right now where I'm at not my cup of tea,, but,, I'll see what others have to say first.
It DOES look like it could be ALOT of fun!! Just depends on what you expect out of it, I wasn't trying to bash it. I have limited airplane fund ( or at least according to my wife ;-))
So right now I'd rather be spending elsewhere. Not in same category as this but right now I'm perfectly happy with my Mystique by E Flight, another FINE HH product ;-)

My only "complaint" is that it is priced too close to the Mystique which may prove to be the better performer, soaring-wise.

Makes me think of the old topmodel gem, which was a real nice every day warmliner.

Ah… right.

If I knew what a hotliner was, perhaps that would make some sense.
