Blanik l-23

I decide to build this plane. i haven't enough expirience in glider controlling, and thats i want to ask what profile i can chose to make this plane not very rapid and easy to control. It is not important for me to have possibilities fo 3D. What profile get the better of this problem.
What profile is good for dynamic soaring and for thermal ?
If somebody have some good drawing of Blanik l-23 please send me by e-mail

A really good all around airfoil is the HQW 2.5/9. Designed by Helmut Quabeck, it has 2.5% camber and is 9% thick. It is designed for use with camber changing flaps at 22% of chord, and works well in light lift and will really move out when needed, like at the slope. Camber changing really helps on the high speed end, but is not an absolute necessity. With Quabeck's airfoils, you can shift up or down on the thickness and camber to suit your needs, and it works very well. For slower speeds, you can increase the camber to 3.0%, faster you decrease to 2.0% or even 1.5% if you want to really burn up the sky! The same goes for the thickness, thicker makes for a stronger structure, which can be important depending on the type of construction you choose, and thinner will reduce drag and increase speed potential. I have used the Quabeck airfoils extensively on thermal, slope and electrics with excellent results. Quabeck unfortunately passed not too long ago, but his wife maintains a web site with lots of info ;

Good luck,

David Layne

I think DLD have good suggestions
Myself I would maybe go for HQ 3,0-12 which suits better for slow flying and grace, but if you need speed 2,5-9 is a good choice.

For scale planes there is always one HQ-airfoil which suits your need.
