Ugh yes, this. Stop after the second book in the Ender series.

Ender's Game is such a cherished book for me, that I'm almost afraid to see the movie for fear of it being another StarShip Troopers.

What was wrong with SST? It was the book on the screen.

Wonder who will play Ender and Bean
Asa Butterfield and Aramis Knight, respectively. Harrison Ford as Graff.

I read somewhere that the script was more of a combo of Game and Shadow.

Heh. Perhaps a picture of Jar Jar would have worked too.

Game and Shadow are mostly the same events from different povs. The others are different.

I liked all the books and the supposedly crappy magic themed books as well. He has strong moral themes in all of them and thats what I like about them. The Homecoming series is somewhat lacking in outright sci fi whiz bangery but makes up for it in characters and situations, IMO.

The cast looks good. Worried about an unknown director.

Gosh, I didn't get that at all. Verhoven didn't go into any of the moral ideas in the book beyond the barest superficial treatments in the ads and vids shown in the movie, and the rest was gore and action.

I really like those two. Game is the best, imo - with Shadow not far behind. Shadow was written a long time after Game.

I read Ender's Game in late High School or early college. I read Starship Troopers at roughly the same time. Those are two of my favorite scifi books. . I like most Asimov stuff too, especially the Foundation trilogy.

Uh, oh. OK, off the top of my head.

In the book,

1. Lt. Rasczak doesn't ask Rico to shoot him, and doesn't shoot the trooper when he gets taken by the flying bug, an event that is also missing from the book.

2. Lt. Rasczak wasn't Rico's instructor (Mr. Dubois) at school. It looks like the two were merged into a single character.

3. Rico is lashed for flipping his visor up during an exercise, not for getting another trooper killed.

4. Sgt, soon to be Lt. Jelal is totally missing from the movie.

5. Rico is killed in the last operation, in the movie, he's not.

6. Carmen is only a passing interest.

7. The Basic and Officer Training, the more interesting parts of the book, with the serious questions being asked, are missing or severely cut.

8. Has the Skinnies, the movie doesn't

9. DID NOT treat military service like it was the Hitler Youth.

10. DID NOT have those commercials.

11. Had serious powered armor, not styrofoam that bugs could easily punch through.

12. In the book the troopers dropped in individual capsules most of the time (hence the name Cap Trooper), instead of those ugly shuttles.

13. In the book most of the troopers were pretty smart .

14. No Diz as a love interest.

15. Capt. Deladier did not die. The troops gave her a memento for her (not Carmen's) hot shot piloting.

16. I agree with MtnGoat, no gore in the book, but waaaay too much in the movie.

17. The book's commanders were really smart, unlike the craven Base Commander that got squashed by a flying bug.
.

SST was an embarrassment to the book. I still watch it when it's on tho. Can't help myself

He's very spiritual. I think he was a Mormon missionary back in the day. Serious thinker.
