Yup, blown out....BUT, I received the 2014 RMSA LARGE CERAMIC PRIMATE AND NON-FUNCTIONING LAMP TD SPORTS-CHIMP AWARD at the pilots meeting thanks to Jim Monaco!

If you guys are thinking about flying TD or J this year, think no more! You could see your name on the plaque of this highly unique, large, heavy, fragile, unsightly.......yet very cool......trophy!

Also, thanks to Bob for CDing the contest today. I know being RMSA president and taking on CD duties is time consuming and difficult but you sure are doing great work and we appreciate it!

Scores from Todays RMSA DLG contest

We had a warm sunny day but significant winds to start with. It was around 5 - 7 meters/sec for the first round but winds lightened up after that and thermals and wave lift meant some of us could get 3 minutes . Conditions deteriorated after the third round as a front moved in.

Since we ended up with only 5 pilots, we decided to run All Up Last Down for each round with no timers. The first guy down got one point, second guy down got 2 points... last guy down got either 5 or 6 points depending on how many were flying that round. Out of Bounds got 0 points. We got in 3 full rounds of AULD before the high winds started and blew us off the field. For my first flight of the second round, I got the max with plenty of time and altitude to spare and then proceeded to land OOB for no good reason. Dumb Mistake

Congratulations to John Jonke for the win. That Vortex is working great for you. Harold, You didn't give me your score card but I think I figured out what you must have had in Rd 3.
Here are the end results.

That's pretty funny how that picture came out! But that chimp isn't smitten. He's glad he's not at the landfill or a permanent fixture at a thrift shop. But, I tell you what, of all the soaring awards I've received that my wife doesn't like and won't let me display....this is by far the biggest and best! An object of reverence.

So, in the spirit of First Officer Monkey (I'm the Captain, sorry), I'm offering the pictured yellow Supra at $250.00 to any RMSA member who wants to crossover to TD or J. F3J In The Rockies is next month!...........

This is cheap for a good, used flyer! PM for details if interested.

P.S. In answering a PM, I recalled that I had an inadvertent mid-air with this model and a Pike Perfect at high altitude during a big contest and made it back for time and landing points where the Perfect (a larger, heavier model) spun in. If you look closely you'll see a tiny Perfect silhouette on the nose cone under where the cockpit would be. Just sayin'........

Has anyone been out to the Cherryvale flying site south of Boulder recently? How is the field and are there cows being pastured there now?

I was there last week. Cows are there but usually there is an area they are not in big enough to fly...

Alrighty Then.

I've been reading about shortening Snipes over on that thread but there ain't no way I'm going to do that on my new baby Snipe. Besides, my well used home brew HAR model was too heavy at 9.8ozs/277gms, so it became a likely candidate. It's probably tired of this by now and has developed an intense dislike for the Snipe.

Using the TLAR method (That Looks About Right), I hacked off about 6.5cm of boom and moved the tail feathers forward to their new locations. It's spring/pull so that made the move pretty easy. The Snipe thread talked about shortening the fuse by 5cm but this is a heavy duty (and repaired) Fr3aK fuse so what the hell.

Anyway, all I saved was .45ozs/13gms! I thought I'd get .5ozs or more due to moment/arms and whatnot.

Anyway, it don't look right as it sits next to my "normal" Validol in the picture. But the shortened Snipes look a little on the short side also. Don't worry, I won't test fly it near any people. But, who knows? It could be a winner at it's new fighting weight of 9.35ozs/265gms.

Now I got to go find some other perfectly good thing that I can mess with.
