10-blader in - a Multiplex Twister

The Twisters are really cheap now, so I got one (and will use the stock Wemo-clone EDF in a Graupner Epic Victory).
Chose the same lightweight setup as in my Vampire:
L2855 - 2800kV, 3s 2200mA 35C, light 40A ESC, max 37 Amps.
Speed and thrust are ok for a plane this size on 400W.
The sound is not great, didn't succeed in balancing very well, and the exhaust note of the Twister isn't beautiful either. But still a great improvement over stock judging from the videos out there.

Twister MPX 10-blade CS70 EDF 3s lipo light setup (2 min 12 sec)

Cut the rear end a few centimeters in order to get around 62mm exhaust (stock 55 or thereabouts), so the CS70 is working fine. Ducting is good on the Twister, so rather efficient, but no "woosh" - as we all know, it's NOT the 10-blader which makes the woosh, but it lets the woosh be heard, in case the cheaters etc. produce any...

cheers
Clemens

I did my initial tests for this fan with a bl-32 motor on 6s 3300 65-130 c, giving 1600 watts plane sounded awesome but a handful to fly so i have grounded it

Scunna, to me the best cs10 combination i have seen from your videos is the ff mirage 2000 with the cs10. By any chance do yo know the auw on that plane?

HK 10 blades 70 mm EDF

Hi all!,
I have just received this FAN from HK:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/s..._1200watt.html

After a first run, I noticed some black scratches on the inner housing, where the blades are turning, the rotor isn't centered, only half mm out of place, but I think it's the reason of these signs of contacts on the surface.
At maximum speed there are no vibrations, only at 1/2 throttle.

Any help for that?.
Thanks.

If you have vibrations at half throttle, it is out of balance. Time to learn dynamic balancing.
Have fun!

Speaking of which, I just picked up a magnetic balancer and had tried my hand at balancing a rotor. I had just added very tiny drops of med. CA to the back of the hub on the lighter side of the rotor until I had it balanced. Is this the best tool for the job? Is my CA technique ok?

I have 2 of the 6S versions and they are balanced perfectly.

Yours must be defective or got dropped.

We supposedly buy these with the premise that they are balanced.

Since yours is not, you need to contact HK for a replacement or even Tim Wan who is known to be very helpful.

A balanced rotor does not mean a smooth fan! It is only 1/2 of the equation. The motor can, and often does have its own imbalance, that is why dynamic balancing is essential for a truly smooth and quiet fan. The adapter fit is also a critical part to a smooth fan. Slight looseness on the motor shaft will cause imbalance at various power settings that are impossible to balance out. Often, the adapter must be made to stop moving on the motor shaft with a slight amount of glue to hold the motor shaft end from wobbling (or buy a tighter adapter).

I use CA to balance my EDF's and it has been working well. You are lucky if your "magnetic" balancer gives consistent results as most have poor shafts that aren't straight, or have points machined that are not centered.

ah ok, I guess the magnetic balancer isn't that great of a tool after all. I really need a guide to dynamic balance of fans and props.

I am uploading vid of the "clock method"...

Static balance is still good for reducing the time of clock balancing but it's best to get one of those thick rod rotor balance screws cause the thin ones bend too easy

Ok had 4 flights today with my HET F20.

Setup is CS10, L2855 2100kv on 6S high timing. I'm getting ~1400watts and 64amps. Motor is fine (although it was cold out today), but I'm not too impressed with this motor. Could be the ducting or exhaust tube, but I was expecting more speed out of it. Probably only got 105mph.

Exhaust tube,...make sure FSA is 75% or greater...

Tried to fly my Honda Jet with less than 75% and it was a dog...took thrust tubes off and it becomes a rocket...

I think it was doing around 5lbs of thrust on 6s with the 2100kv outrunner....

That should push a good number of EDFs pretty good

What was your packs C rating?

regards
