Slowpoke build log

Today I received a few kits from A2Z that I had ordered before they closed. I decided to start building one, the Slowpoke. It's an indoor / outdoor endurance rubber model.

The kit included laser cut ribs which was nice. I sanded the sheet wood ribs to help reduce a little weight.

Next I checked the stiffness of each piece of strip wood and graded the stiffest pieces to use them on the wing, then stab.

Old Ambroid cement

I haven't built any free flight planes in a while so my bottles of a brood cement have dried up. Knowing that it's so hard to come by any more I'm trying to reconstitute it by adding acetone and hoping it will dissolve the dried cement. I've had some luck with this in the past.

Ambroid is back to life

After soaking over night, the Ambroid has dissolved in the acetone and looks useable again.

Stab

Stabalizer LE and TE glued together. I'll let these dry just a little then add the ribs.

I for the ribs all glued onto the stab. I broke one rib while gluing it in. Luckily I was able to use a piece that I had trimmed off another rib and it was long enough. The kit only comes with the exact number of ribs. No extra

Yeah. Me too. I was lucky to be able to buy 3 kits though. I bought this Slowpoke, the a time Mashine (indoor duration), and One Night 28in endurance outdoor. Wish I could got one of every model.

I got the leading edge glued up this evening. I used the stiffest pieces of wood that I had marked earlier. I went ahead and glued it where the diehedral breaks will be. I'll soften the joints with acetone when it comes time to add the diehedral.

Hey. I just realized that I missed the blow out sale completely. I kept waiting for an email but guess I forgot to sign up. The planes I bought we we just purchased during his final weeks. That sucks... I miss knowing that a store like A2Z is available whenever I want something. Guess in time I'll find a new place to order from.

Wing

I glued up the TE of the wing and added the ribs tonight. Luckily I didn't break any as there are no spares. I'll let this dry overnight.

These sticks are starting to look like parts of a plane. I did cover the rudder tonight with some condenser paper. Used super 77 spray glue and misted one side of the rudder then laid it down on the condenser paper and trimmed it with a double edge razor blade.

I covered the stab tonight. Used #400 sandpaper and sanded the edges to remove the excess condenser paper. Worked better than trying to trim it using a razor blade.
