Question
Futaba FP-7FGK (FM Band) System Price Check

Hello Gentleman,

I got this Futaba FP-7FGK (FM Band) system as a gift back in the mid to late 80's and never used it and ended up getting out of the hobby for quite a long time. Recently I got back into the hobby and now I would like to buy a new radio that uses 2.4 ghz band. Both the TX and receiver batteries would not charge up due to their age so I had my local hobby shop replace both of them when I thought I would be using this system. Could someone tell me what a fair price would be for me to ask when I put this up for sale ? Other than the box having some shelf wear, the rest of the hardware is in mint condition. See pic below. Thanks for the help!

Put on ebay, you may find a collector that will pay $50 or so.

As you can see there isn't much demand, it was a nice radio in its days but its too common to be collectable, ebay might be your best bet!

More opinions in general or more different opinions?

I'm with Ron and Cori. I've bought several for $50 and less. On one occasion I bought three 7FGs for $50 shipped and two of those were like new.

You can always plug in a Futaba format module to use it on 2.4 Ghz if you prefer that over 72 Mhz/FM which is still legal and perfectly usable.

coriolan,

A while ago I called Futaba and they said their 2.4 modules did not work with my radio. Do you have a link to that Futaba format module? Maybe I can check it out..

Then it can be done with a DIY module:

Its easier than it sound!

If it is set for a 1500/1520us center (older 7FGs were set at 1300us) a current Futaba style 2.4GHz module will work in it. These include Futaba TM-7 FASST, Spektrum DM8, FrSky DFT as well as others from Corona, Assan, and so on.

The current modules are smaller in size and if that bothers you, you can make a spacer to fill between the module and module bay in the transmitter. I made a spacer for my 7FG and I think I posted pics somewhere here on RCG. I may have been in a Aristocraft Challenger 720 thread.

The AM version(with "G" style servo conn.)was 1300us as you said but if I remember well all the FM used 1500us like everybody else as well as .100" spacing "J" style conn. on the Rx and battery in the Tx.

Even the AM system will take a current Futaba style RF module. The AM RF board is a modular style and plugs in exactly the same pins with the same location as the FM module bay style FG transmitters. There's a trimmer marked "C" which would change the channel center pulse width and can be brought to 1500us.
