Assuming it's a gasoline engine, I like Stihl Ultra. Mix at the engine Mfg's recommendation.

I personally use Redline oil. Many people seem to prefer it or Stihl Ultra. This is just one of those questions that you'll get all kinds of answers.

What are your thoughts on Klotz? I used it years ago in weedeaters and 2 stroke mortorcycles.

I pretty sure that if you go with a quality oil, you shouldn't have issues. There are many, many, many threads on this subject. They all start the same and end up in a " my oil is better'n yours debate".

+1 for Stihl HP Ultra, it is great oil. It works really well in the engines with minimal carbon build up.
Some people use Redline oils too.

Klotz has some oils that work well too. But the Klotz Benol being castor oil might tend to gum up the engine after a while.

Amsoil has some oils that work, but I would not use their suggested super low oil amounts when mixed. Although the oil works well with higher mix levels it tends to carbon up the engine more.

I use stihl ultra at 32:1. Another club buddy uses bel ray(?) at 40:1. He gets nearly no residue on his plane. I get a little on mine. Also thinking about trying 40:1 to see if that cleans it up some more.

Make sure the oil you use is intended for "Air Cooled" engines. It has slight and very important differences compared to oil intended for liquid cooled engines. Basically stay away from anything that says "marine' on it.

Love the smell of Klotz oil!

I used it in my Banshees at the dunes. I use it now in Planes, weed eaters, chain saws. It is good stuff!
