So I am a bit lost on what motor I should match up with my Midi Fan.

So I am getting ready to build my Pro Design F-18 and I have been reserching setups for weeks now looking for that balance of decent speed and power but tollerable flight times (6-7 min mixed throttle) and I am kind of stuck! Rough estimates have the jet coming out at about 7lbs with 6s and 7.5lbs with 8s. I want to keep the motor budget at a reasonable price (would like to stay under $100). I really am thinking 6s so I have the convience of charging 1 battery not 2 (2) 4s's to make up 8s) soooo Battery will most likely be 6s 5000 30c. I am going with a CC ICE 100 ESC so I can run 6 or 8s.

Neumotors are just to expensive, Medusa is out of buisness sooo I am looking at: (with some flightcalc specs on 6s 5000mah 30c)

HET Typhoon 600-37 (1700kv) 4.1lbs of thrust and 162 watts per lb (pretty weak but good flight times) $89

Great Planes Electrifly Ammo 36-56-1800kv 4.4lbs thrust and 184 watts per lb (better but not great but still good flight times) $49

The Scorpion motors (hk3026) are outrunners and needs quite a bit of Fan Modifications to make work so not sure about that but the price and specs are decent, not sure I want to hack up the fan!

KD36-74-09XL (1900kv) 5lbs of thrust and 220 watts per lb and still ok flight times the $31.95 price tag is just dosent seem like enough money for a motor of this size???

So can anyone make some suggestions and please dont just throw out a brand with out a model # that would work on the Midi fan.

Keep in mind if I have to I could go 8s but trying to stick with 6s

if you read the discussion of this motor on hobbyking you will see that this motor is not good even on 5s
under 100$ i dont have any suggestion

I am wondering the same for the f-18, although i do keep the NEU 1415 1.5Y on 8s as an option, but dont know the amp draw and flight time on 4000mah. I have a CC 85HV. I am also thinking of the Jepe 8s fan/motor combo.

I have a 6s midi setup which produces like 2 kg of thrust initially. Also seeing the video i think i wont go with 6s.

Take a look at the ARC motors, you'll get the best bang for the buck.

I saw the data from Carl, but can not find the 36-60 for sale. This one seems to draw max amps the cc85 hv can handle. I did find the ARC 3675-1.5 1360Kv and ARC 3675-1 1680Kv (which looks like draws close to 100 amps?).

the 36-65-1 is out of stock right now. The 36-55 series are good to around 2kw.

I've been flying the Mega 22/30/2 on 6S 5000 (74 amps max draw, 1600 watts HOC) for a couple of years now. I use half of an MPI heatsink (cut in half lengthwise) to keep temps down to 135 degrees max. Works great on a 6 lb balsa and ply F-18, with another pound from a polyester(?) fuselage not as great but should still be ok, you don't really need insane watts per pound to put on a good show.

Did you order it with the Fan?

If so the Prodesign 90mm fan has a molded in cut-out for the install of the outrunner motors. No mods to the fan needed - Nice touch.

I have tested the Scorpion in this fan on 6S I get 1550 watts at 50 something amps and the motor is nice and cool. I plan on testing it on 7S tonight and getting temps and numbers.

Also have the Het motor and I believe you can run 7S on that one with heat sink installed. Yet to test it

Will post them on my F-18 thread.

Thanks for the replys guys!! Matt it is the Pro Design fan and thats great to hear that outrunners are an option. The Scorpion wtih 1900kv should be decent on 6s but i am guessing that is pushing the limits of that motor, I will keep an eye on your F-18 build!

I am not completely opposed to 8s but just thinking I want to avoid recharging 2 packs at the field.

I will look closer at ARC (I havent looked at all they offer yet) I wonder if that 36-65-1 can handle the 6s, that would be a great watt per lb ratio for sure!!

Mega seems to have to low of a kv to really get 6s moving I want to be around 1900kv.

I am not really taking that video seriously, who knows what motor and setup they went with, MattinAZ's Mig on 6s was really impressive so I dont think a good 6s setup is out of the question.

Yes the ARC 36-65-1 can handle 6S in the midi fan. You could also run the ARC 36-55-1.5 on 6S or the 36-75-1 on 8S. The 65-1 and 75-1 are out of stock though.

Nope

8s is ideal with a Mega 22/30/3. I've been running this in my 90mm Bob-E-Cat for a few years and it's perfect.
I know it's not 6s but I didn't have much luck with 5-6s in Midi's. The amp's just go up to high and flight times and batteries suffer.
