as a first computer radio, the 9x may be a steep learning curve, but fortunately, for a fixed pitch heli there's a lot of stuff you don't need to mess around with. I can't offer any pointers other than to say there are a few vids on youtube covering the basics of the radio.
Only just started on the 9x myself even though I got it ages ago (have other radios I like better) so if I don't like it, back in the box it goes.
Here is a text file I pieced together covering radio settings applicable to any large fixed pitch heli, see if there's anything useful in it for your application ...

Ah, okay, you must have one of those microsoft operating systems that can't read text files correctly.
I only use unix based system. If you disable wordwrap in notepad it should have "fallen" into place. Normally I keep all my info as pdf's, except for the short files like that one.
Thanks to esa3 for helping you with that while I was in sleepy land.

I think the tracking (and shakes) may improve when you get the second z-link installed. A spare set of blades isn't very expensive but why bother if you don't need it or can at least wait until you make or buy another z-link.

Also, if you roll this thing over there's a good chance it will spray z-links (part 32) all over the place.
You were right. The tracking has improved after the missing z-link was installed. Not only that but the slight gyro drifting is gone too. It is much more stable now.

But I also bent the tail push rod so there is no binding on the two plastic fuselage holders.

What a great bird!

OK, I finally got the FC flying, but I also need some help now.... it seems that the motor doesnt get enough speed to get more than 4 feet of the ground and unless I hit throttle hold , when the throttle is off (all the way down), the motor jumps on and off.

Is this a problem with the ESC ? I left it a factory default settings (mystery 40A).

Battery is new and fully charged, and the settings on the Dx6i are 0-25-60-85-100

If you have that, use it. If not, I would not go ahead and buy it.

Aren't you suppose to calibrate it for both end positions of the throttle stick?

Although not necessarily related to your problem, the default settings need to be changed in two areas...
1. default for motor start is medium (or soft), it needs to be changed to very soft, the lowest setting, which is for helis.
2. default for lipo cut-off is 3.0v per cell, which is too low and will damage the battery. needs to be changed to the highest available setting, which is 3.2v.

As ozvena mentioned, make sure you have done throttle calibration exactly as described in the esc manual.

Ok, I will read the manual again, I must have missed the throttle position part, I did get a program card but not sure how to connect the ESC to it. The 3 prong has a - , + , P , what color wires are Negative and whats P, the ESC has yellow, red and brown, is the brown negative ?

Adding; now I've read where to go into program mode, to turn on the Tx and set throttle to max, then plug in ESC, 2 beeps and lower throttle......... problem is I dont get any beeps. What the heck am I doing wrong ?

Edit again; I got the beeps, I didnt have the motor connected. took the blades off to make it safe , then it beeps.

Back to the program card, do I need to do something with the sticks or just plug in the card and then the battery ?

NEVER MIND, I got it figured out All except for the motor jumping on and off at zero stick.

The DX6i has a known throttle hold calibration problem. Try adjusting the throttle hold throttle curve to a flat +10%. Also, I'd adjust your normal throttle curve to 0-50-70-85-100 to get your blades spinning a bit earlier and give you a bit more usable throttle range for hovering and fast forward flight.

Go to the multiplex funcopter wiki page and use the recommended esc settings for the HK blueline esc (same as mystery esc btw).

Cheers,
TomC

Thanks Tom, I already had the print out of the wiki page and changed the normal throttle curve to exactly that, I will go into T hold and see what needs to be changed there, I'll start with your recomendation. All in all this is working out pretty good for my first build and the help of my friends here

I think you still need to mess with the stick: somehow I never noticed that the stupid programming card for the Mystery ESC doesn't allow the 16 kHz switching to be selected. If they were trying to cut corners and reduce costs on this item then why didn't they just hard wire the switching direction and allow us to swap a pair of phases to reverse the motor if necessary...

Like you, I also missed the throttle calibration when I hooked it up the first time, but it worked out ok in my case. The manual has some suggestions for repeating the throttle calibration process but I'll be damned if I could ever get it to work.
