elections=cheaper gas-thank bandar bush

In his new book....Mr Woodward described a conversation between Prince Bandar bin Sultan and Mr Bush in which the former Saudi ambassador said he could ease oil prices ahead of the elections.

"They could go down very quickly. That's the Saudi pledge. Certainly over the summer, or as we get closer to the election, they could increase production several million barrels a day," Mr Woodward said.

The really sad part is that even if it's true and everyone knows it, and even if they also know that gas prices will go right back up after the election, it will still work.

Mr. Woodward needs to talk to Oil Traders instead of Saudi Princes.

If it's true?

Gimme a break...Woodward has written what? TWO books in which he fawns over bush's wisdom like a courtier from the 17th century?

I think two things happened. The bush people got very at-ease with Woodward ...thanks to his proven track record of writing 'bush the warrior king' books.

Woodward's reputaton as a respectable journalist was just a fond memory after it was discovered that he well aware of key facts concerning the Valerie Wilson outing ...and not only failed to publish but hid his knowledge even from his editors.

It was a 'perfect storm' scenario.

Woodward knows he is in the history books. He also knows that his current tarnished image will color how that history is written.

He obviously decided to be a journalist again.

Of course, the republican spin will be that it's a lie....then if a source comes out, they will slime that poor slob to discredit him....and if the polls show the public deems him credible even after the sliming, they'll discredit HIS sources by a cover story (like Woodward's source heard this story from someone who was out-of the-loop and actually unaware of what occurred at the meeting between dubya and his Saudi soul brother.) Bandar himself will be on CNN and fox assuring the American public that Saudi Arabia is really pumping less oil than in april...

That's the scenario ...which probably won't happen...because I'll give 5 to 3 odds that this aspect of Woodward's book will be given one news cycle....tops. The story will end with a couple of low level bush flunkies supplying sarcastic but very general denials and a couple of right wing pundits' expressions of amused incredulity.

Then Woodward will do his sales job on the talk shows...and they'll make the "bush knows things about the Iraq 'war' that he's not tellin' us' the focus of the interview.

The oil discussion between bush and bandar will be ignored.

Let's watch and see which one happens.

Doggonit, I was starting to suspect that Reynolds was making their product a little thinner than it used to be.
This confirms it.

Here's your today's tip, guys: Fold it over and double it before making the hat.

HF, it's not thinner, they changed the alloy. Using 20% less nickel, 20% more zinc....

No. The really, really sad part is that a couple of you will believe it, even if it is NOT true.

So if gas prices on January 1, 2007 are about the same as on November 1, 2006, will you guys admit you were wrong? If they are 25% higher I will admit there may be a conspiracy.

Who are "you guys"? Are you having double-vision problems or something?

It's difficult to research this matter because I keep getting Google hits from before the 2004 election, when the Saudis clearly and admittedly did manipulate gas prices temporarily to help keep Bush in office, and Woodward wrote about it.

As to whether they're doing the same thing today, I'm not quite ready to offer an opinion yet. All I'm saying at the moment is that if they are, and everyone knows it, they'll still allow it to influence their votes. That's how stupid voters are these days.

Apparently the Saudi's are welching on their secret promise to Bush that everyone knows about. Why can't people stay bought when you've paid good money for them?

NEW YORK, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Nigeria and Venezuela plan to cut production amid OPEC concern about the rapid drop in prices, the OPEC countries say.

The move, which accounts for about 170,000 barrels a day, may suggest other cuts by the oil-producing cartel, The Financial Times reports.

Figures to be released in the next few weeks are expected to show Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates also reduced output, but are keeping quiet about it, the newspaper reports.

wow, so many conspiracies out there!

or, it could be lowered demand, high stockpiles, an easy hurricane seasons...and proper market response to all

no, it's gotta be a conspiracy, of course. it's the only explanation!

It's no 'conspiracy'....it's a business agreement between bush and his Saudi soul brother...

The media will play along because of a common interest in keeping pro-corporate right wingers in power...

It's really quite simple if you bother to think....but I realize that's something right wingers have a problem with.
