12 motors DeX Nuke

Well, a new model is here... DeX Nuke ...named after the symbol

6/12 motor option...
it is made for max 8'' props
420mm from shaft to shaft diameter, 470mm outside diameter
hole diameter beneath cover is 135mm
plenty of space...

hull weight 255g
cover weight 25g
carbon buckles 2,5g
total weight of the model on the photos rounded up to a gram ... 283g
landing gear is in the process I do not know the weight of the landing gear at the moment...

model is made from one piece... that would mean that connecting the upper and the lower half of the model is made wet-on-wet and that makes a perfect joint... a one piece model

I just love the aggressive look of the model

and a few more pictures...

Incredible workmanship.

Looking forward to some video of it in the air. Its aggressive profile should look fantastic.

Thank you!

my goal was to create something with unique shape, light while at the same time very sturdy one piece model....

I can not wait to fly it... but I'm still at motor selection at the moment ....

Dex, what sort of setup do you have for mounting a gimbal on that and/or landing gear ?

landing gear will be at the same time a gimbal mount... it will be mounted with 4 screws from below

original idea was that the landing gear is only one piece but that would define a fixed height which is not good for different camera and gimbal size...

so that the final solution is in three parts... one mild M shape which fits the curve of the hull and two skis at the bottom of M....
M shape will be cut to the required length depending on the camera and gimbal size... from gopro to nex5... that is the plan

Thanks!

the centerpart has a diameter of 210mm and a height of 75mm...
molds are very shiny so all the casts are shiny when they come out from the mold...
full matt finish I think it is not possible but i can achieve semi-matt surface with very fine waterproof sandpaper if it will be necessary

here are some picture for comparison Nuke with Mini and 50cm Quad side by side and one on top of another

Build log

I have some free time for myself so I'll make this into a build log....

in the end result should be 12 motors Nuke with a 3 axis gimbal and Nex5N FPV machine

the biggest headache were the motors because I had a couple of criteria when selecting motors and here they are sorted by relevance
1. they must be completely black(and it is very problematic to find)
2. 2205 size
3. weight 25g or below per motor
4. thrust about 600g per motor

After a long search for a suitable motors I chose emax GT2205/22 : http://www.emaxmodel.com/views.asp?hw_id=14
because they were the only ones meeting the criteria on paper and they have the manufacturer sticker which is easily removable

but the enthusiasm was quickly down after receiving the motors... first thing I've noticed were very bad/ugly windings
test showed only 430g - 470g thrust with different 8'' blades

so after trying several types of wire thickness and turns... the best result was with 20 turns of 0,375mm wire
and the motor produces 650g of thrust with 8040 prop
my rewound motors are up and the original motors are down on the photo

so I finally have motors that meet all the criteria above and they sit nice and flat on the model arms

I just need a little bit of rewhining to finish all 12 motors.... until tomorrow
