F-104 Starfighter

I decided to dust off an old plug and finish it up. It is a 35 inch long F-104, I still have not decided on the wingspan. This jet will be over a 40mm fan so I will put it in the other jet forum, I just wanted to give a heads up because so many of you helped me get through my F-16 project. It will use all of the lightweight techniques I have developed in the F-16 project to keep weight to a minimum and make it a good flyer.

I measured mine and it's 35"

Why not just make the wing scale?

It is one of those premade models. I would like scale wings but they are real tiny. I am going to start with larger foam core wings and if it handles well I can trim them down to the scale size to see how it will fly. If it does fly well then I can spend the time and money to make wings molds the scale size.

I was going to do it with scale wings. You could make it very light and fly on a 40-50mm fan. It's roughly the same size as the one Steve Neil made. I had one of those too, but the fuse was pretty heavy so a canned it and bought one of these plastic models to make a mold of.

I remember a Japanese guy who had built a scale looking F104 for an EDF 40 :

Hope it'll help !

Its about 12" span so let him in !

You could get a 64mm fan in there at a push , that would give it some punch !
I've got one I plan to take a mold from but it needs to be really light or it will be just a guided missile and it would be a pig to land .

I would also fit a head lock gyro on the aileron and elevators controls to give yourself half a chance .

If you use the scale intake spikes it will only take about a 40mm fan. I want to use resin infusion on a fuse with the lightweight kevlar and see what the weight comes out to. Maybe lightweight cloth with scale wings and a high power 40mm fan might work. If not it can use up to about a 65mm fan with no intake spikes.

Looks sweet to me. You've even captured the panel lines. Wish I had the skill.
